Thread: Black Bear Pass Colorado

    Default Black Bear Pass Colorado

I was wondering if anyone has been on this trail in Colorado. Was looking at some sites I found on google. Looks like a fun trip. Was told you didn't want to try it by yourself. There is a All-4-Fun jamboree each year that the MIle High Club holds. They said in 2010 they will use this trail.

That trail looks way cool. They say it isn't the hardest trail, but the scenery and the fact your on the edge of a cliff makes it worth while.

I ran it when I was out there a few years ago. Definitely worth the time ot run it. It's not difficult, but there are a few scary parts. Two weeks after I ran it a couple in a TJ went off the trail and tumbled 900 feet to their deaths.

Can you tell Bruce also works for Telluride Tourism Office... funny, he never gets repeat phone calls...

Seriously, it was a tragedy but fatalities are rare.

    The trail in question..

    Here's a good shot from '75...

Here's a link about the trail and the accident.

I ran this and several other trails out there alone and would do it again. I saw way more people out alone than I saw groups. Most of the trails I ran were not particularly challenging, and more had enough traffic that if you got into trouble someone would help you out, unless you went over the edge and then it wouldn't matter.

    Default SAFETY FIRST

YES,,,, you can go it alone, I have many times, even on horse back, however taking into consideration that when something breaks and there is no one around it gets very lonely, dark, cold at night, and you cannot always count on others passing by or maybe MIGHT be there, I've spent several nights doing repairs at various times when up there alone on the trails.......nuf said
