Thread: Mounds today

95geo, WhiteRhino and son-in-law and my self visited the Mounds toady.

Bryce had some chalenges he wanted to show us. We were not aware of the potential that exsists once you look arond inside the wooded areas.

We were impressed with the offerings and found enough chalenge outside of the mud to keep one busy for an entire day.

If we can bring in some rock to a few choice locations the Mounds would make for an even better venue.

We have the rocks at the Gladwin location, we need to see what we can do to move them to Genessee county

I've seen many pictures from the cool tight stuff Bryce and some other Misfits have wheeled back in there. I looks good, but doesn't seem to favor a rig like mine....I don't want body damage, or major body damage. I've seen a few pics that put you up agaisn't tree, that would reek havac on my lwb multi windowed Jeep :<img src=:" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> . Guess it's time to build a SWB with not top

Indeed, we had a good time without any body damage. There is enough to challenge anyone and I think that most any well built rig can get through. My problem was not body damage but purely a steep off camber hill. Has a little pucker factor...... ask Pat!

Bryce, thanks for the tour.

no problem! there were still some areas we didnt get to but theres always another time

mike, there are many trails that you can have fun on that wont give you body damage, but vehicle control is a huge part in making it out unscathed

i would love to see this happen, but first and foremost we need to get the trails passable by fullsize vehicles again, its almost to the point where the access roads arent safe because of the lack of visibility

Is there any form of trail brushing maintenance that goes on there?

Maintenance.............Only G.L and some of the other org that use it. Like CCC and MATVA a few years back. . We did some clean-ups and minor trail clearing. Problem was and is now, due to the condition of the park, we need to get more than 3 to 6 volunteers like 95Geo has been doing for the last 6 mo. now.
I've gotten the tentative go-ahead from the park ranger. Need to make formal request to have a 'trash pick-up and clearing' weekend there this fall. Wanted to wait till Quarterly AND after the sweltering 90* temps to get general concenseus on support for that type of work project.
Also thought we would, GL, spring for some dog's and soda for the workers.
My hope is that there is a new group of individuals who desire to whip the Mounds into shape and provide probably the best wheeling opportunities in S.E. Mi. if not the entire Lower Pennisula.
SO...........What's a good open date this Fall? I've made changes to the Calender permissions so any GL member can post an event. Let's get the events posted and find an open weekend. I'll put the letter together to request permission from Genessee Co. Parks.

How about the weekend of Oct 16 & 17?

It is the weekend after the quarterly, after that I will be in Montana for three weeks hunting and then returning to rifle Deer season here until Dec. 1 and then it is Muzzeloader season.

Not that you couldnt do it without me, but I would really like to be there!

Q1: Do you want this to be more than just G.L.?
Q2: Will we do food?
Q3: Both days?
S1: I'll type up and submit the request letter this afternoon.
S2: We need to promote it through out the 'Michigan' based BBS's.
