Default Pro-Hobbyist Street Rod and Custom Vehicle Bill Introduced in Michigan

Pro-Hobbyist Street Rod and Custom Vehicle Bill Introduced in Michigan; Committee Hearing Scheduled for Dec. 4
SEMA model legislation (H.B. 5467) that would create a vehicle registration classification for street rods and custom vehicles and provide for special license plates for these vehicles will be considered by the Michigan House Committee on Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources on Tues., Dec. 4. Introduced by State Representative Joel Sheltrown (joelsheltrown@house.mi.gov), H.B. 5467 defines a street rod as an altered vehicle manufactured before 1949 and a custom as an altered vehicle at least 25 years old and manufactured after 1948. The bill allows kit cars and replica vehicles to be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation the body of the vehicle most closely resembles.

We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources Committee (List Attached Below) Immediately to Request Their Support for H.B. 5467

For those interested in attending the hearing to show their support, the committee will meet on Tues., Dec. 4 at the following address and time:
Anderson House Office Building, Room 521
    124 North Capitol Ave.
    Lansing, Michigan
    10:30 a.m.

H.B. 5467 provides specific registration/titling classes and license plates for street rods and customs.

    H.B. 5467 provides for a one-time registration fee of $100.

H.B. 5467 only holds street rods and customs to the equipment standards specified by law during the model year listed on the title of the vehicle.

H.B. 5467 provides that a replica vehicle will be assigned the same model year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles.

H.B. 5467 permits street rods and custom vehicles to display blue dot taillights.

H.B. 5467 provides that vehicles titled and registered as street rods and custom vehicles may be used for occasional transportation, exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, etc. and not for general daily transportation.

It may not directly affect us at the moment, but it opens the door to something that may affect us later on (not necessarily in a bad way).

And I'm sure there are a few car guys around here as well that may be interested.....

ok, I was just wondering.. i read it about 3 times and coudnt see whether it was clearly good or bad for us. it looks like it could go either way depending on how things spin from it.

This seems like a good thing because it seems like it may be easier to title older jeeps, broncos, and scouts as customs and make it easier to reassemble them.

This is how I read it... I like the wording "Occasional transportation" it allows you to drive it more then a historical plate like I have does... Although the police have never harassed me for driving it every day during the summer, they actually wave and give me a thumbs up.
