If you are thinking about volunteering for Trail Maintnenance this year, either as an individual or as a club, but don't know what you might be getting into or what is expected, the DNR is offering workshops to help provide the information you need.

Three meetings are offered to accomodate your schedule (unless you are a tax guy )

    March 28, 2007 6:30-8:30 Best Western Midway 7711 W Saginaw Hwy Lansing, MI 517-627-8471

March 31, 2007 10:30 to 12:30 Tree Tops Resort 3962 Wilkinson Rd Gaylord, MI 888-873-3867

    April 14, 2007 12:30 to 2:30 Econo Lodge 2050 US 41 Marquette, MI 906-225-1305

These meetings are designed to provide "clear concise information to assist you with your trail work responsibilities. The three manuals used in the ORV program will be available, and they will be reviewing the ORV Trail and Route Maintenance Handbook to ensure the saftey and success of the Michigan ORV Trail SYstem."

If you have questions, please feel free to contact the local ORV person assigned to your area:

    E LP - Paige Perry 989-732-3541 x5086
    W LP - Katie Campbell 231-775-9727 x6044
    W UP - Ron Yesney 906-228-6561
    E UP - Dan Moore 906-293-5131 x4045

I am going to try to attend the March 28 workshop.

Pual M and I have attended these meetings in the past, good idea for GL members that are considering taking on miles for their club or members just wanting to help out.

Trail maintenance generally needs to be done before Memorial Day, and again before Labor Day. Last year we didn't start until the last weekend in April.

Brrrrrr - can you say tent camping in Atlanta in April? But at least you don't need campground reservations!
