Default Quarterly Delegates call for UFWDA

Last night was the quarterly delegates call for UFWDA. I was encouraged to see participation by new Board members and Extended Board members, including some folks from out west. Unfortunately, UFWDA continues to struggle like most organizations to keep all of their top spots filled. The meeting was led by the Vice President (some guy named Brower that you may have heard of) due to a vacancy at the top spot, and the financial reports were presented the "acting" Treasurer, who is only sticking around until a permanenet replacement is found.

An interesting land use update was presented last night. I have not had a chance to review the documents the land use committee chair distributed last night after the meeting, but we had an interesting update on a conversation about the definition of "road" that is taking place out west, but is based upon a federal statute that may be applicable to our state discussions about the definition of a road. Stay tuned!

FYI if you want to participate in the Quarterly Delegates' call, you should contact UFWDA VP Pat Brower and get your name added to the distribution list.

One simple question about "road"..... could it lead to things being better or worse here in Michigan?

Definitely a plus for users - the way I understood it, it was a very basic definition, and is supported in USC somewhere. It would be a possible avenue of "attack" when dealing with road closures since it does not differentiate between department-made and user-made roads. One of the complaints with the HMNF MVUM was that they deleted numerous roads that had been in existence for decades (in some cases pre-dating the USFS) because they were "user made".
