According to the March 19, 2010 edition of the Kiplinger Washington Letter -

"Some local governments are so squeezed by costs, they're tearing up roads. In Mich, VT, PA and Ind, paved roads are proving too costly to maintain, leading towns and counties to abandon paving of several hundred miles of back roads, turning them into cheaper gravel routes instead. Look for others to follow suit."

Heck save more maintenance money and let them just be dirt!

We've pulverized several roads here in Muskegon County.
Unfortunately, residents are complaining about a "brown, oily film" being deposited on everything. They say it's a result of the pulverized tar being blown around as dust.

Now ALL pulverization is on hold until the CRC can determine if the dust is hazardous to resident's health.

More hazardous than cigarette smoke, or diesel or gasoline fumes, or smoke from a wood burner .... :banghead:

Let it rain on the dust a few times ... we'll all live through the rain! :blahblah:

There has been talk of converting paved roads back to gravel here in Monroe county as well. Our roads are in horrible shape and they have no plans or money to re build them.
