These are located on the Albright Shores Ice Carnival grounds and are available for our use by making a couple of phone calls.

They also can be moved if we find a good home for them that meets our needs.

WOW are you sure!

The only Jeep pic I have ever seen of the rocks has been 4Banglers with the cowboy hat.

Next someone will claim a picture of Roadhouse wheeling. :P

anyone have a place to put them where we can actually use them? (the mounds is a nice thought but im not sure if that&#39;ll ever happen)

If we wanted to hold an event with our rocks we can still do that, for cost savings though we would have to do it in conjunction with them doing their events.

They hold sand drags and mud bogs with tuff truck comps all summer. We might be able to make some money for the Assoc.

lets get it going...... comp style or demo? im thinking demo, that way people can interact closer/better


are they setup hard enough to challenge buggies?

They were set up to where I just got over them with my junk. I just squeak 1000 on a 23 degree ramp, not buggy numbers but if you were to adjust the way you were to traverse the course you could have fun with a buggy.

The course is only 100&#39; long but still entertaining.

last I heard there had to be an environmental study on something about these so they could be moved to somewhere. What is the status? Who pays for the study? Why isn&#39;t it being done? etc...lets get them moved.

tim, if you think full bodied jeeps are going to draw attention then you should tell these magazines they are taking pics of the wrong rigs. if you want to actually get people over there to check them out then you need to have more than dd capable rigs on them.


the enviromental study was/is for the st helens motorsport area (where we were for the quarterly) and if im not mistaken there are provisions in the grant to get "new" rocks, not the ones that great lakes currently owns.

We do need to move the rocks, but to a location where we can use them whenever we want. State land would be nice but the St. Helen deal (if it goes through) will be providing rocks via the monies from the grant.

Our rocks are our rocks, we need to keep them for GL use, just dont have that place yet. Even if they were at the mounds they could still be considered "ours" by having a sign that says these rocks were brought here and paid for by GLFWDA.

If we did that on public land the sign would last? Not very long I am sure&#33; And then the State would be the new owners of some rocks paid for by GL members and at anytime they could shut them down or eliminate them all together.

I dont know if we will ever find a suitable location that will allow use when the members want to use them, and will not have insurance issues.

Consider this, if someone were to get hurt on your land while playing on the rocks they could sue you&#33;

THAT WOULD SUCK :BangHead:

So what do we do? Where do we put them where we dont have to worry about liability?

Could we sell the rocks for grant money? Then they would be public rocks on public land....

We probably could if it were GL getting the grant money. But the DNR has taken over the grant for this project.

Actually took the application process from us&#33; And I am not sure why, but I have my suspicions.

So if the DNR is putting in for the grant fo rthe rocks then they will not want to mess with the small pile we have, logistically not cost effective. One idea I have is to put them at a dealership where we want to do the 4WD Awareness training. But only if we can use them when we need to&#33;

pat, is it possible to set up an "open rocks" day sometime where we can just go out and play on them, shoot the &#036;hit, and bbq whether its at an event of theirs or not. i&#39;d just like to see us get some use out of them.....

I spoke with Jim kneiper from the Ice Carnival grounds and he said someone has been moving are rocks and we no longer have a course set up&#33;

They are using the big ones for a border along the sand drag track.

We need to get these out of there&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;

Pat, that must of just happened late in the summer or during the fall.

Jason Campbell from Midland, was up there for their big Mud Mania thing that made the mags...he played on the course and posted pics on Misfts. I beleive that was July 4th weekend. From the pics he posted, it looked the same as what you posted....nothing missing.

We need to round up some equipment&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33; and get these things moved&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;

The problem is that the big rocks need to have a big loader and a rock pan style trailer. The smaller ones can be placed on flatbed trailers.

Or we write up a contract that is legal and binding to be able to use the rocks where they sit and whenever we need to.

I have access to a big dump trailer that will handle some of the big rocks but not a way to load them.

I see this is a very old thread but I&#39;m curious where this stands. i understand from talking to ironman that moving them is the biggest problem. If that is true I may not be much help but, if finding them a home puts the goal a little closer I may have part of the solution.
A friend of mine owns Butler Speedway down in Quincy and he has talked about building an obstical course for trucks on his 125 acres. There is already an old quad track, a mud bogg, a small gravel pit, plus a couple piles of focks to play on. I&#39;m sure if some people wanted to help him build something (or even offer ideas) he would be recptive. He would probably be receptive to the idea of trading access for time and materials (such as these rocks) as well. If this is a topic worth pursuing let me know and I&#39;ll put a bug in his ear and see where it goes.

With the numbers we have crunched, it is cheaper to buy them new than to move them. But, we would certainly be interested in the posibility of your buddies place.

i realize it may be cheaper to buy new, but if we decide to move them i have acess to 2 large trailers. i believe they are both 10 ton rated. i got an f250 my friend has a k3500.
so if it ever happens im sure we could donate some help, assuming the move wasnt like 500 miles each way, and it was on a sat or sun. also my fater in law has a backhoe and a track dozer and a dump truck, perhaps i could convince him to help, he hauls the dozers on a 20 ton dually double axle deck over trailer, the dump is a topkick, i think 10 yard.

Thats what I&#39;m thinking too. A few guys willing to donate some time and some borrowed equipment could make this happen. I&#39;m not familier with their current home but the speedway is 15 miles or so south of Marshal off I-69. I&#39;ll be out there on Nov. 11th for the mud bog (I posted that in events) and will see the owner then if not sooner. We can go check the place out any time just say when and I&#39;ll meet you there (weekends prefered) or come down for the mud run.

Oh, and I&#39;d be willing to help as well.
