Any of the DNR designated "routes" would be considered beginners trail IMO. Most are fine in your typical daily driver except in the winter time. The Mounds is mostly mud and very tight trails for a full size rig. It might be the place to go to get a feel for what you and your truck are capable of.

Yup....what Bruce said! Most any legal trail or forest road in Michigan will be just fine for you!
Have fun!

Even on a "beginner trail" I'd still take a second vehicle along just in case. Between here and GL4x4 you can always find a run going on somewhere. If you go to the mounds absolutely avoid the water and mud, many of those innocent looking holes were made by 54" Rice & Cane tractor tires.

It's a little ways off yet, but unless there is 3' of snow on the ground in West Branch a small group of us are heading up from the Genesee County are the last Sunday of February if you want to tag along.

Advice on The Mounds:
If you go there in the warmer months, I would not recommend going into mud holes that you haven't seen anyone else go through yet. Some can be quite misleading. . . . . . and extremely deep!
Otherwise, get an ORV license and hit some ORV Routes like others have said.

Looks like we will have more snow here than up there, but we still plan to go up on Sunday. Meeting at WalMart, 10am.
