Bob, Doug and I took a trip this weekend to Haspin Acres ORV Park in Laurel IN. IFWDA held their quarterly meeting there today, yesterday was a Toys-4-Tots run hosted by 3 IFWDA clubs. Before luch we got the nickel tour of some of the easier areas of this 750 acre park with about 13 vehicles, including several stock Wranglers - Bob's HUMMER standing head and shoulders above the rest in the group. Nice scenery but the trails were more like the Southfield Freeway after the spring thaw. There were a number of buggies, truggies and the like in the park, so we eagerly anticipated a run after lunch to see more of what the park had to offer. Unfortunately, just as we started finding some interesting stuff to play in, we had a couple of mishaps - Bob lost another rear quarter glass and I discovered a crumbling axle u-joint. We headed back to the camping area for repairs, but someone had the wrong u-joint in his kit, so our day was done. We barely scratched the surface of what they have to offer. It was inexpensive - $15 covered both admission to the park and rustic camping (showers and a snack bar available). Park hours 6am to 10pm. We didn't get to see it all, but were told there is something there for everyone, although never did see or hear about rocks.

6.5 hours for me from Flint including gas stops (2) and lunch. But that's driving 60-65 max with the camper too. Maybe a smidge shorter than going to the Badlands. I took 23 to 75 then across 70 for a bit, not sure if Bob made better time going I69.

Just over 5 hours for me traveling 70 mph and going down I69.

The variety of vehicles was staggering.

The hours are 6:00 AM till 10:00 PM, so it isn't the first place I would consider for camping other than being close to the action.

I got in waaay late on Friday, got my feet up just after 3am. There were still trucks and quads moving around at that hour, not sure if somone was stuck or what. Saturday night was a little better. Both mornings the first quad revved up at about 6:03am.

Sure for work...but 6am to go wheeling? Deer hunting, duck hunting, fishing, maybe - but I can't ever recall feeling the need to get out of bed at 5:30am to be on the trails at 6am.

I always knew I choose the wrong profession when 6 AM was closer to lunch time than breakfast.
