View Full Version : How To Impress Your Lady

For anyone who's interested...........

Several months ago, my lady (Penny) mentioned that we should rent a cabin somewhere in the UP this summer and get away for a few days. I reacted like a "normal" man, and quickly grunted "Yeah". I then acted like I forgot all about it.

But that was all part of my plan.............I did an internet search and found a beautiful log cabin near Munising that I could rent. I contacted the downstate owner, and secured the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings for the first weekend of June.

Now the tricky part began.......we have joint checking and savings accounts, and I needed to send money to the cabin owner. So, I had to make a couple of witdrawals without Penny's knowledge, and purchase money orders and mail them from another location. I also had to intercept all of the mail from the cabin owner, so Penny wouldn't get her hands on it.

In the meantime, I let her boss in on the secret trip. He scheduled her to work her normal shift that Friday, knowing that she wouldn't be there.

That Thursday rolled around, and I got up in the morning and dressed for work. As soon as she left for work, I changed my clothes and went into action!!

I had the entire weekends menu planned out, and spent the day grocery shopping, packing the cooler, getting the quads ready, and packing everything that we needed. I had her daughter all squared away for the weekend, and every little detail was done!!!

She came home from work and I told her that we were leaving. "Noooo....I'm not going anywhere tonight" she said.

"Yes you are. We won't be back until Sunday", I replied.

"Nooooo.....I have to work tomorrow", she said. "No, you don't" said I. "It's been taken care of".

"But I don't have time to pack and get ready to go away for 3 days!", she protested.

"You don't have to! I've got it all done! Change your clothes and let's go!" I said.

More in the next post.........

I didn't want to time out while I was typing all of that, so here's more..........

We jumped in the vehicle and struck out for the wilds of the UP. At 11:30 that evening, we pulled into "our" cabin, and it was perfect!!! She was VERY impressed!!! She was in tears at one point (happy tears) because she said that no one had ever done anything like this for her before.

On Friday, we spent the day visiting several waterfalls (and hiking in to many of them), as well as parts of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

After a nice dinner Friday night (I refused to let her cook a single thing or touch a dirty dish all weekend), we settled in for a little TV. Imagine her surprise a short time later when I turned off the TV, got down on one knee, and PROPOSED!!! She never saw it coming!!! Made her cry again, but once again it was happy tears, so it's all good!!

By the way.....she said YES without any hesitation (hard to believe, I know, but what can I say?)

Saturday we rode the quads all afternoon and then I prepared a nice dinner of grilled marinated steak, marinated pork chops, and shrimp cocktail.

We returned home Sunday, and all of the kids were very excited to learn of the engagement. If we can plan it, we will be married before winter.

So.....I just wanted to share my happy news with my 4-wheeling friends!

Oh....and let me add....

Fellas.....if you want to impress your lady, plan a getaway trip for them! If they don't have to do ANY of the planning (and let's be honest, the woman usually does more of this than the man)..........no worrying about what you'll eat all weekend, what to buy for groceries, when they'll go shopping for everything you'll need when they've got to work, run kids around, go to soccer/baseball/etc., packing........

If you can take care of all of that, and surprise them with it to boot........you'll be their hero!!!

(Diamonds are optional.....but jewelry is never a bad thing in a womans eyes)

CONGRATS Tim and Penny!
Look forward to meeting the young lady one of these days.
GREAT job Tim!!

We have your first paragraph covered for the week after DOA.
After the long drive from OH, we might as well stay for an additional week and ENJOY the UP!

We'll be at a cabin in the Curtis area on a private lake (no license required) with fishing boat (row) included. Plan to kick back, relax and take in the scenry.

If we get bored (not likely), side trips include Picture Rocks, Whitefish Point, TQ Falls, Seney Wildlife Area, St. Ignace, and any other point of interest someone suggests.

CONGRATULATIONS! You realize, I hope, that once you get married, you'll have to sell the quads, then spend that money to remodel a bathroom that you will no longer be allowed to use.

Yeah.....I've already been approached by several married women who are begging me to "please talk to my husband"!!!!

As for selling the quads......they're brand new, and one of them is hers! She loves riding it, so I think they'll be with us for a while!

I am so happy for you and Penny. What a wonderful love story. It sounds like you two are going to be very happy. Now riding quads isn't going to take you away from jeeping is it? Can't wait to see the rock :thumb:
