Now that seems a bit harsh ...

Jeep Rally for Life - Troy OH May 3rd
Jeep Rally for Life - Relay for Life, Troy, Ohio May 2nd, registration from 8-9:00AM at Erwin's Chrysler Jeep - Last minutes details

Wouldn’t a Saturday like today be great for next week – rain in the AM for more mud and then sun shine!

Wednesday Evening- Build the playground!
Latest word from the Fairgrounds people
• They will NOT need an extra bobcat
• Meet around 5:00 or 5:30 PM at the fairgrounds or come whenever you can

Friday Evening!
• Those who want can come to the fairgrounds to offer rides on the playground to Relayers. We will take one of our donation buckets w/us so we can collect more money for the Relay. We probably want to do this between 6 – 7:30 or so.
• If you want to setup a table at Erwin’s on Friday, I think that can be arranged if it is after 6:00 PM or so

Saturday Morning!
• We hope to have Relay T-shirts available for those who will be playground guides so when you register, let us know you are helping
• When we return to Erwins, we will need volunteers to run the different games and all of the clubs have volunteered
• If you know of any good games for children that can be played in the parking lot, please volunteer those ideas and materials, if possible. We will try to get the bowling pins again for the tire roll but we need more. Call us w/questions or ideas 937 360 9592

Keep checking back for more details

lol. I didn't mean it to sound harsh. I'm sorry.

I just meant it doesn't really have much info about what it is.

Even after reading yours I'm a little confused.

So this is a Relay for Life event, but with Jeeps?

And how are the jeeps going to be applied? An offroad course of some sort I presume? Or is there more of a place to place rally type thing?

April 10th, 2009, 07:07 AM
I have not been before, but know the organizers and some of the club sponsers. I have looked at the pictures and exchanged emails.

AND I've met you, so I can understand why YOU are confused ... LOL, HA!

YES, Cancer Relay For Life Event for Jeeps!
I'll be walking in a local event in June!
(in our county ... Willie's Warriors ... I'll take donations $$$)
(Willie and I met over his Mud Boggin' 70's Blazer in the 80's, neighbors and friends from then on, been wheeling together with our IH Scouts as far as the UP, back then ... he is in tough shape now, but fighting hard!)

YES, offroad course built at Fairgrounds!

Rally, ONLY in the sense of caravans into the event and between event locations, like a parade, I guess!? Not a car road rally event.

Just a note to put on the calendar
I am also waiting on more DETAILS!
(they have an email address if people need more info and an email update service, I already signed up for it)

THANKS for your interest, others will benefit from our exchange.

[QUOTE=DDS4X4;48556]AND I've met you, so I can understand why YOU are confused ... LOL, HA!

I love you Doug!

We always participate in the Relay for Life up north because of my aunt. I wouldn't mind checking this out.

Unfortunatly, plans are already made for that weekend. Sounds like a neat twist to the Relay.

April 11th, 2009, 05:11 AM
You're GREAT too, OZ!

I'll let you know how it goes!

Thought I would post it here because there are SOME lower MI and OH and IN folks that scan the board.

As promised ... more details ... on the AFTER PARY!

Jeep Rally For Life Meets and Exceeds Goals

American Cancer Society Relay for Life

Over 130 Jeeps at Erwin’s Chrysler/Jeep and the Miami County
Fairgrounds in Troy, OH
goal: more than the 115 of last year
$5,000 raised in one day in the middle of fi nancial bad times! Oh,
we do have expenses coming out of that money but we raised
more than last year
goal: raise more than last year ($4,000) and more per person
Two people spoke to the rally about cancer. The American Cancer
Society president for Miami County, Gail McCreight, and Miami
County Patient Navigator Robin Supinger. They informed us that
folks at the Relay for Life fi nd Saturday morning to be extra fun
now that the Jeeps add so much (some participants have been
there all night and the track has someone walking at all times).
Gail said they start spreading the word, “The Jeeps are coming,
the Jeeps are coming!”
The rally of 120+ Jeeps to the fairgrounds announced to all
observers that we are part of Relay for Life because many Jeepers
held their signs out their windows. The Troy police provided great
help. Thank you!
goal: increase the amount of education about cancer prevention
and availability of services in the state of Ohio; increase the
interaction with Relay for Life
Children had their area to play, color, compete in races, and raffl e
goal: more for the kids to do
The rainy days last week gave us an opportunity to fi nd amazing
people who made the playground possible. The show stopper we
faced was that we had no way to get a backhoe over the race track
and we needed it to build the playground. The rain made the track
soft and we had no way to prevent the backhoe making trenches
in the track.
Along came a guy that John and I meet in a restaurant in
Beavercreek last year (we both had our Jeeps in the parking lot
and of course, we had to talk). Last Tuesday, Kyle Tirpack was
sharing with us some of his pictures from Moab and when we
started talking about the Rally situation he said, “Let me see what
I can do.” Well, don’t tell Kyle you have a problem unless you
want it solved!!! He used his semi/fl at bed to pickup and deliver
six steel plates to the fairgrounds. How does someone just get on
the phone and fi nd highway type steel plates? The Miami County
fairgrounds had Scott Black and his backhoe available and we built
a “bridge” across the race track that could handle any equipment
and we got to keep it down for the Jeeps. Kyle and Scott Black
then reversed the process and tore down the playground and the
plates on Saturday while the auction at Erwin’s was still going on.
It was all done by 5:00. Wow! Of course, the clubs helped build
and tear down the playground even with all the mud, rain, and
cold. It is defi nitely “funner’ to ride thru the playground than to walk
thru it dragging rocks around!
Larry Walker and the Poor Farmer’s campground made it possible
for this event to be a weekend family fun time. Larry roasted a pig
out there and many of us got to taste the great results on Saturday
night. Next year we hope that more people come and enjoy the
talk, food, campfi re, and relaxing time. Profi ts from the pig roast
also go to Relay for Life.
In July watch our web site for a link to our “Jeep Rally for Life”
store. We will have t-shirts, jackets, hats, etc. available from a
supplier who will direct ship your order and mail a check of the
profi ts to the Relay for Life monthly.
If you have companies who have donated items/time, let us know
if you want them to receive a letter from us to provide evidence of
their donation for tax purposes.
Feel free to give us your feedback about what to keep the same
and how to improve this event.

Thanks guys!

When we left for DOA, we didn't know when his memorial service would be. I talked to his wife, Rosie, today, seems the service was being held while I was standing at Marblecliff "talking to him" about our ride in 2006!

Don't you love it when a plan comes together!

In Honor of Willie and our 2006 DOA ride, from Marblecliff at 2009 DOA!

If you zoom in on the shirt, it has "Willies Warriors" on it, our Team shirt.
