I don't expect anyone to be able to attend the public meetings, but we do have the ability to write comments to be submitted:

BLM Seeks Input On The Draft Timber Mountain Recreation Management Plan EIS

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Medford District Office, has released their Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for managing Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) use in the Timber Mountain Recreation Management Area, also commonly referred to as John's Peak. The 15,114-acre Timber Mountain Recreation Management Area is located on BLM-administered lands intermingled with privately owned lands, in Jackson County, southwestern Oregon.

OHV enthusiasts have recreated in this area for over 40 years and OHV use has significantly increased in recent years. The network of trails in the area has developed as a result of many years of OHV use and passive management of the area. A recreation management plan is needed to provide for a quality OHV recreation experience in a manner which: 1) protects the natural resources; 2) promotes the safety of all users; and 3) minimizes conflicts among the various uses.

The Draft Timber Mountain Recreation Management Plan will identify trails and roads to be designated and managed to provide for OHV use. Alternatives in the draft Timber Mountain Recreation Management Plan consider reductions in OHV trail use ranging from 63 to 92 percent over what is currently used.

The BLM is accepting public comment for 45 days before a plan is finalized.

Comment deadline is April 13, 2009

There will be two opportunities for the public to meet with the BLM to hear about the draft Timber Mountain Recreation Management Plan and provide the BLM with input:

March 5: An open house is scheduled to provide the public with information and answer questions concerning the draft Timber Mountain Recreation Management Plan and planning process.

April 2: A public comment forum will be held to allow interested publics to voice their ideas or concerns.
More details on this second meeting will be forthcoming in March.
