Any deals or places that have event related lodging specials? If not, where's everyone usually stay?

There's rumors of a new camp ground with showers that is supposed to be a little more set up for trail rigs and trailers. But usually we stay at Papins.

There will be a flyer in the next Boondocker. And we will have an online registration on our web sit starting on April 15th.

Nice job posting the ferry schedule Bob. The easiest way to remember it is that the ferry leaves for island at 20 minutes TO the hour (going TO the island), and leaves the island at 10 after the hour.

It should be noted that there are 2 ferries, and during peak times, they don't stick to the schedule. If there are more vehicles on the dock than they can fit on the ferry, they float a load over to the island, come back, and load up again. They don't make you wait an hour for the next trip during peak times!

The ferry can handle 28 vehicles, and regularly carries loaded semis, busses, etc.

I ride the ferry all of the time for work and play, so just thought I'd put my 2 cents in!

Don't worry about being open on 31's with open diffs. The first time I ever went to island (MANY years ago), my TJ was open with 31's. You shouldn't have any trouble at all!!

And if you do.....someone will be more than happy to give you a tug (and then tell EVERYONE about it at dinner)!!!

Heck......I'd even hook you up to the shackle on the back of my trail trailer and pull you out!!!

Yeah T-way,

We're working on some others from Ohio, they made it to Sno*Blind and had a GREAT time! He is originally from Michigan.

After a little carnage at Sno*Blind, he now has a real front bumper and is saving up for his next upgrade, a winch! We got him "hooked", now we're just slowly "reeling him in"! A membership to GLFWDA will be my next pitch and if we get him to "bite the hook" for DOA he'll have to join to attend. Got him!! :thumb:

We are on the fence at this point. Not because of the event, but because we are holding tight to cash until I see how my job holds out. Things are pretty scarey right now. If we land a big order we were supposed to have 3 months ago things will change.

With more revenue sharing cuts & federal $$ cuts, this will make year 12 that I've sat on the bubble. At about 5 years in I said 'screw it' and started living, but this year looks real bad so we've cut back a bit. We even backed out of the H3 Championship edition were going to get last month :wah: and the H1 looks like it may be sold also.

No the routes are not closed to other users during an event. It makes them more congested in spots, but they remain open.

click on "GLFWDA home" at the top left of the page. the next page you go to has a spot to click "join GLFWDA" near the top center. it will give you the steps to join, and different levels available. if you have any trouble just ask, many of us could help you.

Just wanted to mention one or two the the trail leaders may want to pack along a chain saw.. or stop in and see me to use one of the DIORC saws.

We had a pretty large blow come thru here last weekend and I have had reports of several very large trees being down,,, I've already cleared a number of them,,, but I got a few more reports yesterday. I'll try to get out this afternoon,, and cut thru a couple more.

I just can't promise I'll find all of them before you guys arrive.

Three of us are planning on bringing them up. But thank you for the recommendation. Yes, it will be good to see old and new faces.

First post. I found this through EP and Great Lakes 4x4.

My son and I are heading up to Drummond this Thursday through Sunday. Coincidence that this is the same weekend as the DOA. Im planning to pretty much hang around the outside of the island hitting the beaches and checking out the wrecks.

We will be "dispersed" camping. Thats so weird saying that...Camping to us has always meant sleeping in a tent. Although we sleep in hammocks.

Anyway...Maybe paths will cross this coming weekend. Ill be driving a White Chevy Colorado with a grey soft-topper and 3' CB antenna on the drivers side front.

If the downed tree makes a good obstacle, leave it!

Well, my jeep decided to have issues yesterday. Took it in this morning and it seems my rebuilt tranny is going to get rebuilt again next week. I can't seem to downshift into second gear..upshifting is no problem, but it won't downshift into second at all and sometimes not first. :banghead:

He said driving it this weekend won't make it any worse, but I know it's bad ettiquette to take a jeep with potential issues on a run.

I'm going to take it out this afternoon and make sure I can run trails with it before I decide. Either way, I'm coming up to Drummond, I've got work I was going to do on Sunday when everyone left that I can start early, at least I'll get to meet everyone.

I had posted this on April 9, 2009, in the Events Forum regarding a Cancer Relay For Life Jeep Event in Troy, OH.

YES, Cancer Relay For Life Event for Jeeps!
I'll be walking in a local event in June!
(in our county ... Willie's Warriors ... I'll take donations $$$)
(Willie and I met over his Mud Boggin' 70's Blazer in the 80's, neighbors and friends from then on, been wheeling together with our IH Scouts as far as the UP, back then ... he is in tough shape now, but fighting hard!)

My friend Willie passed on to the GREAT Trailride in the sky on Tuesday.

The last time I was on Drummond Island in 2006 for the DOA event, Willie rode with me.
On the drive up, we talked about how neither of us had been in the UP since the late 80's when we took our IH Scouts to Tahquamenon Falls and explored the two-tracks with our families, from Whitefish Point to Picture Rocks.

In Ocotobr of 2006, we took Willie and his wife, Rosie, to the IFWDA Ranch Trailride. It was probably the last time he was on the trails.

I'll be wearing our Cancer Relay For Life "Willie's Warriors" Team shirt on Saturday in memory of Willie and the GREAT time we had together at the 2006 DOA event. The team raised over $18,000 this year and the county wide event raised over $90,000. We won 7 of the 10 team awards, there were over 50 members on the Team. He had a lot of friends!

RIP Willie!

A BIG THANKS to MSG for this event. DOA 2009 was my first trip to Drummond and I had a great time. I really likr the fact that the club donates much of the proceeds back to a local organization.

This is something I will definitely have on my calendar in the future and hope that all works out so this event will continue.

THANKS AGAIN!! :yourock:

RIP Willie!
