My factory Canyon rims have gotten scuffed up from rocks, etc. on the trail. Now I've noticed they are starting to get some bizarre cancer on them.

Is there a coating that's coming off? Is there anything I can/should do to reverse it?

If they get looking bad enough, has anyone ever painted aluminum rims?

Yea, there is a clear coat on the rims. After you get a scuff, it opens them up to rot. Lemme see if I have pics of my Eagle 589's when I painted them.

Yea, ok here is what my rims looked like after having them for 6 years or so. 589's come un-coated and I was sick of buffing the crap out of them every month.

Then I sanded them, and painted them with Graphite color rim paint. Gotta use rim paint. It stands up to brake dust much better.

They looked great untill I put them back on the Jeep. ;)

After I got it all done and back on the Jeep, I felt they were too dark. I like the aluminum look so I will be repainting them to a lighter color. I'm not a fan of the black rims, at least not on my rig. Too much black already.

And this is what they looked like when they were nice...I really like silver rims...not chrome though.
