Support RTP Funding in Stimulus Package</SPAN>

ARRA recently joined with 25 other recreation groups to urge House and Senate leaders to support including $300 million in funding for local trail projects through the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) in the economic-stimulus package being considered for action in early 2009. The additional funding would be separate from and in addition to regular funding authorized for the program. Use this link, http://www.arra-access.com/arra/economic_stimulus_letter.html (http://www.arra-access.com/arra/economic_stimulus_letter.html) to view the letter.

RTP projects are ideal for economic stimulus as a distribution system for the funds is in place, many are ready for construction immediately, they are typically small scale ($50,000 or less), and the RTP leverages federal funds with state, local, private and in-kind matches.

For more information about the RTP use this link, http://www.arra-access.com/arra/RTPOverview.html (http://www.arra-access.com/arra/RTPOverview.html)

----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

As a constituent and a member of ARRA I write to urge you to support the inclusion of $300 million in funding for local trail projects through the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) in the economic-stimulus package now being readied for action in early 2009.

ARRA recently joined a diverse group of 26 recreation interests that wrote the President-elect and House and Senate leaders calling for the additional funding. The letter can be viewed by using this link, http://www.arra-access.com/arra/economic_stimulus_letter.html (http://www.arra-access.com/arra/economic_stimulus_letter.html)

RTP projects are ideal for economic stimulus as a distribution system for the funds is in place, many are ready for construction immediately, they are typically small scale ($50,000 or less), and the RTP leverages federal funds with state, local, private and in-kind matches. Experience shows that selected projects can be underway very quickly and that most are completed within a year. This funding would attack unemployment swiftly, and rely upon small businesses across the nation.

Including the additional funds for RTP projects will achieve both immediate economic stimulation and strategic investments that will help transform American communities and lifestyles for long-term success, including energy efficiency and improved health.

Thank you for your consideration.

----END OF LETTER TO BE SENT----

Sincerely,
Thomas Craig
