I wasnt sure where I wanted to put this topic so I thought this would be as good of spot as any.

Volunteering to help, what it takes.

It seems that a lot of the current dislike for GL has been blamed on the current administration, while I have broad shoulders I refuse to take responiblity for volunteers who do not follow through with the commitments that they made to the organization. I am sure the rest of the board feels the same way!

We also do not have the time to babysit such volunteers to make sure they are doing what they promised. Let me go on to say we have NEVER held back any volunteer effort to make things better. This is not to say that there are not some older members that squabled over changes but rest assured the current administration has said all along that we need to move forward.

So with that being said it is imperative that if you volunteer for or offer to help out your fellow GL's members that you either stick with it or let someone know you are unable to continue. We have had several of these situations arise lately and the board seems to be paying the price.

We do have a gentleman that wishes to keep the web site updated hopefully he is given the tools to do that. Another member has commited to getting out a new issue of the boondocker ASAP. I thank both for their efforts!

If we can tie up some more of these neglected loose ends we can be what everyone expects from an Assoc.

If you have read the letter that went out over a week ago you know what else we need to succeed, and if you think you can handle helping make improvements and wish to vlounteer your services then by all means do, if you find that you can nolonger do it please let the membership know so we do not end up where we are today. NO ONE WILL EVER FUALT YOU FOR TRYING!

Volunteering can be a thankless endeavor, but if you know in your heart you have done the very best you can do you can take pride in that fact.

Proud to have served,

Pat Kinne

Pat, right now I'm undecided on my fill in position. I'm sure someone can do a little more than I can, but I really don't want to abandon it or the association. I think it's time for a change and would like to help make that change from the Membership Director position. Just need to find and extra hour or two a week to get it done.

I Lucas hereby authorize you to take an extra hour or two if necessary away from any household duties and apply that time towards GL work.

Lucas

I wonder if that would work for my wife?

Could a "now hiring" list of long-term volunteer positions with a description of duties, and a "help wanted" list of short-term duties be posted for all to see?

I'm certain that sharing that kind of info would encourage members, new and old, to wade in to the pool of volunteering instead of cannonballing.

I think this is a good idea. Maybe we don't have time to always be on the hook for something, but maybe we could help out on a case-by-case basis given work schedules, family commitments, etc.

I think something should be addressed somehow. I remembering saying I'd volunteer to help mail stuff and other duties I said I'd help with but it seemed like pulling teeth to get someone to accept your help! I think it is a matter of someone that is in charge of a GL item to be able to ask for help then reach out and use the help. But you don't want to rely upon people if they aren't going to actually help get something done. You don't want to have someone mail out some forms if they end up saying they didn't have time the day you expected them to be in the mail!!

I think something in the website that users can post and conduct "helping business" type things would help.

Lucas brings up a good ponit!

We have recently went through a volunteer backlash if you will, several have volunteered and then did not follow through and never bothered to let anyone know. I to have asked if someone needed help with no response, and then the project never materialized and was dropped altogether. Those are the types of situations that make GL and it's member suffer, we need to get beyond it somehow!

And guess who pays the price? Thats right, the executive board.

And then when the board does know that someone is not following through with their commitment and we ask them to do so or step aside we are all the sudden the bad guys. Funny how that works.

This is the reason for my post, I am tired of getting blamed for volunteers, of which I am, who are not getting it done.

if you cant do it or need help doing it LET SOMEONE KNOW! it is easier for everyone.

For open positions see post in members section!

We will be working on a list of duties for each volunteer position and it will be posted on this forum and printed in the next Boondocker.

Thanks to the folks who have expressed interest!

Is anyone interested in the Membership Secretary position? I've been filling in since last winter, but really not sure I want to continue doing it. I have a pretty busy schedule with working OT and raising 4 kids. My wife also works alot of OT, so most of my free time is taking care and cleanup after the kids.....thats alot of work. I'd like to take any extra time I have in a week and start fixing my Jeep. I haven't wheeled it in 3 years :<img src=:" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

If anyone is interested please contact me and I can let you know whats all involved.

Thanks
Mike

Is anyone interested in the Membership Secretary position?

I tried a private email to Roadhouse a couple of days ago, no response. But it appears he is overwhelmed (Busier than doggie due). When a guy hasn't been able to wheel his Jeep in three years, something is definitely wrong. I am a newbie, but I am willing to look at the Membership Secretary position.

That's what we like to hear, a newbie with a heart, who wants to help a fellow wheeler ... or the organization he wants to participate with.

ATTA BOY, JARHEAD! and thanks from a member of the organization.
