The kind gentleman who wrote the nasty letter about GL has actually helped us out.

It seems as though a new interest in GL has evolved on MJ and those who have posted there have a lot of good ideas and some of which we have been discussing for sometime but have been handcuffed by the whole quorum issue and "change resisting" long time members.

The board will be holding an executive board meeting soon and we will be looking at some serious possibilities of changing the way GL votes. Long overdue!

The board has never been agianst many of the proposed improvements that are getting mention on MJ, instead we have been "following the rules" as set forth by our by-laws. But at this point I am willing to take a leap of faith and make some changes, if it gets me in trouble, so be it! But if something isnt done soon GL will have to be scratched and that would be a shame as it has survived since 1968.

How many members in good standing are behind me?????????????

Pat

Pat, I'm behind you.

I brought up the everone should get a vote idea before at meetings and was met with resistance...and it wont work for this reason and that reason.

I was just speaking out how we did things when I belonged to the Auburn Jaycees and Bay City Jaycees. E-board votes(except prez) and any member in good standing that shows the the monthly meeting gets a vote. People don't like the outcome, then show up!

There are some great ideas being brought up over on MJ....lets try to roll with some of them, and put the name calling and blaming behind us.

Time to move on with new ideas, rules, and agenda or just hang it up..........I like the first idea better.

We only need to make it through the bottleneck called bylaws.....

I think if we can clean them up, we can grow quickly and will have a bright future!

Pat, please contact Jeremy. I have talked with him & he will do what he can within his means to figure out why you can't post. He said there is nothing from his end that should be preventing you from doing such.

I am on board 100%!
For those old clubs that do not participate but yet hold us hostage on votes, it is time for a change.

I will also be here. I am new to the organization and do not understand or know all the rules and such yet but I am going to work on that.

That said, I think the voting thing should be addressed first. I agree, one person, one vote. However, I do not fully understand how the current voting happens, so I can not offer a well thought out voting process. I am also to the feeling that if you bitch about something, you should be prepared to offer a solution and I am guilty of not having a solution. At first I thought it would be just that easy, one person, one vote, but others have brought up good points about that that must be addressed such as club votes and proxy voting. I know how I feel about thoses but some do not agree. I feel that it should be one person one vote...in a club or not...if you want a voice then show up at the meetings....period...but alas, some do not feel it should be so simple.

Disclaimer...this is coming from a "newbie" to GL, and from someone that has not yet been to a meeting. I pledge that this will change.

I also see overcomplications in other areas like membership tracking. I read that there has been special software purchased, someone also once said they were going to develope all new software to do the same. I see both of these as either a waste of money or a waste of time in my eye. Programs that just about all of us already have on our computers can already handle any membership tracking that is needed. Between the 2 programs of Excel and Access, there is more power in databasing and member tracking than GL would ever need. It truely would be a great day if we expanded beond the power of an Access Database.

Tiim,
Thanks for the positive response. I do not know why Excel or Access were not considered. Or maybe they were and discarded for reasons that you and I do not know. It would be nice if someone could give input.

Our biggest hurdle is how to do a wholesale change in the voting. I can forsee some blood letting.

The next hurdle will be finding someone to implement all the new ideas. I am sure there will be a lot of "you should do this" with good intent in mind. What we really need are some people who will say "I will do this".

Lots to happen before October.

:D Wow Jim I never realized you stuttered or repeated yourself so much :D

From what understand Mike had purchased a software upgade as a fix until it was migrated into the web forum software. The software was meant to allow a user to handle the membership duties with out being a programmer or database wizard. Its probably not the best but was a major upgrade from the index cards.

Ok then...

I WILL DO IT...

Hows that? :)

I just need all the member info on cards, napkins, toilet paper, cerial box tops, receipts for jeep parts...whatever it's on.

Unless there is a reason access or excel shouldn't be used.

Excel would be the easiest and fastest. Access would take a bit but still not hard to do. Once set up, anyone could manage it but I would be willing to do it.

I don't know if it will port to this website software, but it would be easy to put a sticky with a link inside to the database that I could host. Or if the information should be secured then I could password the linked site and only admin would have that password. I could even post a public list and a admin list...whatever.

Rhino is right. But the bloodletting will happen anyway. It will be better to have a smaller assoc. than none at all!!

I don't want people to leave GL. We need a large group to have political clout in Lansing.

Let's get 'er done!

I'm behind you guys on making changes that will help GL surive first, then build up to become a voice for all of us in Lansing. (I'm one of those "in Lansing," so I'll know when GL is being heard.)

And I may have more ideas than time, but put me on the list for "I'll do it."
