Casey, the two groups I went with last year didn't do more than 5-8 miles to the trailhead maybe even less....and I bet we barely hit 45mph :P .

Hopefully Pat answers on here for you, as your rig might be more geared towards some of the trails he takes the biggger trucks on. I'm not sure how far those are away from camp.

Roadhouse is right.
Many people are already aired down prior to leaving camp. There will be some runs that will cover about 25-30 miles of pavement but we are not out to prove we have Corvettes.

You should do fine.

Other things to remember...

While it has not happened in recent memory, everyone should be be aware of getting up on Hwy 17 (main road). If you flinging mud everywhere, it's in your best interest to get off on to the shoulder until you dispense of the chunks. A few years ago, retuning from PIW at a very late hour, some folks in our group got pulled over for doing just that. To make matters worse, certain individuals (who shall remain nameless) weren't wearing any pants! Needless to say the officer wasn't amused.....but then as Jim K. said, 'What happens in Canada, stays in Canada'!

P.S. Canadian officials frown on bringing full gas cans into Canada. Out of site, out of mind if you decide to. I will most likely have some. You also can't bring in wood with bark on it. You also need to be relatively clean without globs of mud all over the vehicle to get back into the states. US customs officials don't want 'foreign' weeds and bugs back here in Mi. They can and will make you go back on clean it off, it happened to me a few years back.
If you've got a passport, bring it. It appears as though your one of the 'good guys' with a passport.

I have some friends in Canada right now and they told me we don't need a pasport so if something is changing before GG please post the info. I also talked with Ernest at Blueberry Hill and he said they will have a power washer for everyone to use that is crossing the border.

Didn't mean to imply it was required yet. It will be in 2007 though. Law was passed. I just meant that if you have one, bring it! they aren't as apt to pull you over and go through the 2 hour search ordeal. This again from experience with the guys here at work who cross the border on a regular basis.

I have heard of topless wheelin.....but not bottomless. I'm perdy sure I don't want to see many of you bottomless.

WhiteRhino

Additional thought for smart wheelin in Canada:
- We will be miles from anywhere and there is no easy recovery for broken vehicles. Spare parts are a good idea. U-joints at the least.
- Temps change drastically at that time of year. Bring warm clothes even if the day starts out warm.
- Same goes for rain gear.
- Groups have gotten lost, taken longer than expected and been broken down. It is not uncommon to return at midnight. Some have spent an extra day in the woods. Therefore, extra food is more than just a good idea.
- I always bring a complete change of clothes. Top to bottom. Including underwear. I have slipped & fallen into a creek over my boots and a change of pants, socks & boots was nice. I was on the PIW run and WAS NOT the one bottomless thanks to a complete change of clothes!

Further explanation on PIW; It was pouring rain & we were on a new trail never explored. We dropped into a valley where there was a cedar swamp that took quite a while to get through. On the other side of the valley was an up hill off camber that was slick as (#$#%$## put in your own words) It took us about 3 hours to get 9-11 (I forget) vehicles up. The first couple winched up and then we had to use triple straps to get the rest up. I was soaked to the skin.
On the contrary, last year in dry weather, a group got up the hill with almost stock vehicles. The weather made the difference!

OK, we have a few new things to do and lots of old trails that have proven to be fun.

There are door prizes and a couple other surprises.

Come join us!

:( I can't go yet again. I wanted to go, even if just to help out at camp and ride along on one trail ride with somebidy. My wife has surgery scheduled so I'm out of luck. She'll need me there that weekend and the Quarterly weekend to take care of the kids while she recovers. Wildflower has been through this and knows that lifting a 35 pound kid is not an option.

<_< So have fun without me. Post lots of pictures. Maybe next year I'll get to go. I'll be at the fall color tour.
