We once again find ourselves without a Boondocker as the current editor has become MIA.

The board was left hanging on this one and now we must send out another mailing that will inlcude meeting minutes and flyer's for DOA and Gitchee Gumee as well as an important letter from me and the board.

We hope to have this in the mail by the end of this week 5/27/05

Sincerley,

Pat Kinne

Thanks for the update Pat.

With all of the editor problems maybe we should just post the articles that people write in a forrum on this board for now called the "Boon-E-Docker". Atleast some of us could read the good articles some of our members write about events and four-wheel drive issues.

I'll try to call you sometime to discuss some idea's and suggestions I have that I don't want to open up here for public scrutiny at this time, as they are just ideas and input, not criticism is what's needed to make them viable.

I'll be looking for it!

Oh, and my offer to do the Boondocker is still there, if you need it, I'll do it. Even my wife said she'd help me proofread (thank god!).

Lucas,
I'll give you a hand too. I don't see why the work couldn't be split up between two computers.

If you guys want to give it a try get ahold of Jim Schutlz and see what GL editor material he has and maybe you can make arrangements to get it from him.

His number is on the web site under boondocker editor.

Thanks,
Pat

Got my mailing

Are things really this grim? I hope not. I've made some good friends and met a ton of great people through GL. It's a shame that all the people I've participated in events with aren't more active, and I DO, sadly have to lump myself in there.

I would like to volunteer for a position but with 2 very young kids and the demands of my job I don't even have time to work on my jeeps let alone attend meetings and such. I had to leave MSG after I joined for the same reasons and that was only being a club member.

I hope things work out and I will now try to be more active to keep things going.

jamie,
You are right on the button about what is happening. Most everyone in GL loves GL. We all feel we have made great friends and enjoy the events. But, it seems there are very few people that can dedicate the time it takes to keep an organization running smooth. These people are putting off personal things to keep GL active.
People live hundreds of miles apart.
We have to do things "legal" to keep our non profit status.
Every year it is the same half dozen people that do trail maintenance.

Hopefully concerned GL members will attend the quarterly and get more involved.

See you soon
Jim

I don't know if I need to be "appointed" or what, but I'm trying to get the Boondocker together....in one place...and get one out soon.

My wife was totally against anything related to Jeeping....but I got her to realize all the things she does weekly that I say nothing about, not to mention all the stuff I do to help her out in those activities. So, she's kinda swayed a bit towards letting me do my own thing. I'm still restricted to no more than 4-5 runs a year max. But I finally was able to count things like meetings and Trail Maintenance as an "activity" and not a "trail run"!!

I think the hardest thing is going to be finding motivated, dedicated, people friendly people to fill positions. That have time for it!! I wonder who has time to be President, Vice President, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary etc... I haven't given those positions a second look because they seem to be filled with just the right people!

hmmmmm

I think it would be helpful to hear from some of the current office holders what is involved in holding office...the time spent on activities, what those activities are, the responsibilities of office, etc.

And I think this has been brought up before, but maybe if the meetings weren't always in the same location, you'd get better turnout. You wouldn't always have the same people at all the meetings, but that's ok, too. Sure, the officers would have to travel more sometimes, but that's the price you pay for being "elected officials." Just a thought.

As Treasurer, I pay bills, make deposits, file tax forms and keep our Quickbooks Pro 2002 program current with member payments, event income, grant money and debits. Reports at Quarterly meetings are required as well as permanent records. Executive board meetings, when required, are attended.
I don't keep a log of the time I spend, but I would guess 45 hours a year, with some months heavier than others.
As for a different location for meetings, find us a suitable one for $50.

Seems to me that no matter where a site is picked, those that want to make it to the meeting will be there.
It is just conicidence that the meetings are held locally to ONLY ONE OF THE OFFICERS. And, the meetings were being held there BEFORE he was elected. One comes all the way from Indian River. The others come from down state.
Keep in mind that the name "Midland" means that the city is in the middle of the state.

Just to be clear, I was in no way suggesting the meetings are held in Midland because Pat lives there. I just thought I would help get this discussion going more. It was disturbing to read the letter from Pat about GLFWDA shutting down. He didn't come right out and say that, but I've been trained to "read between the lines."

So, I've been trying to think of what I can do to help, but time constraints are many. That's partly why I wanted to know what was involved in the various officer positions and to see what people can do to help...whether they can offer a little bit of time each year or a lot.
