Pat,

I apologize for the delay in responding to you regarding Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association's proposal to develop a rock crawl at the St. Helen Motorsport Area.

While the creation of a rock crawl course appears to be viable there are issues relating to assumption of risk that may need to be addressed legislatively before proceeding.

In addition, details relating to course design, construction, signing, maintenance, monitoring, and a plan to mitigate potential environmental contamination also all need to be fleshed out and will require further conversation.

I'd like to propose we met on site after the fire season in early June with appropriate Department staff and representatives from your organization to further discuss your proposal and the items identified above.

Please provide me with some potential meeting dates, preferable mid-day, mid-week, and I'll set up a meeting.

Thank you for your interest in enhancing off-road vehicle opportunities at the St. Helen Motorsport Area. I look forward to meeting with you. In the meantime, feel free to call me if you wish to discuss.

Best Regards,

Steve,

I was told that the rock course proposal has been sent to the MI Atty.
General for review.

Have you heard anything back on that, I am getting questions from our
members as to whether or not we can ever expect to see it.

Looking forward to your reply,

Pat Kinne

Sounds like progress to me. The toughest part might be "mitigate potential environmental contamination". We might have to have shovels and buckets for Oil Dry for the potential of gear lube or oil pan leaks. If the course is contructed to challenge traction performance more than to challenge ground clearance then the potential for leake would be less.
