View Full Version : Group Buy Feeler - GLFWDA tire cover

Recently we have been trying to expand our visibility in a number of ways - new event banners are on order, new store goodies are available, and some brand new items are in the pipeline.

Pat K (Ironman) found a source for custom tire covers, and after calling them Friday I was surprised to learn that they are reasonably priced IF we buy in quantities of at least 25. Tire covers would be full-color screen printed (with the GLFWDA logo) like the ones commonly seen from Jeep dealerships, so they would last a while without fading. We can mix and match sizes to get to the minimum 25 order.

If you could get one for somewhere in the $40-$45 range, would you be interested?

I would be interested in one for the motorhome but not sure the wife would go along. haha That's the only place I could use one. And it's for about a 35" tire.

Would they have just the logo, or could we get "Support the Sport" on them, too?

I'd buy one...maybe two.

Quality is a big issue with me though...the desert eats up fabrics very fast. Things like vinyl, cotton and/or gortex don't tend to last very long. But I'd still buy them and only use them when I'm out on the trail for 'advertising'. I know that sounds backwards (that's usually where people take them off!) but daily driving with it would kill the poor thing out here.

We could do the logo, the slogan, or a combination as long as it is a single design. Since we are buying direct from the manufacturer, we would have to pick one design for each run of 25. Once we have done a run with a particular design, the cost per unit comes down a bit on subsequent orders. But for them to give us this kind of price, they need to set up the equipment and run a bunch for it to be cost effective. They can do one-offs if you want less than 25, but they get $129.95 for those.

I'll check on size availability Monday morning.

Jim, our motorhome tires are 32" which fit perectly with the tire cover I just bought that says "Life Is Good"

I would buy one for the Jeep's spare, it is a 34" so yes I am interested if sizes can be accomodated.

Quick measurement of the motorhome this morning is about 33"

Good news - they are the tire cover manufacturer, so they can make them whatever size we need. However, anything larger than 35x12.50 will cost a couple of bucks extra. However, the more we can order at the same time using similar dimensions, the less additionasl these will cost.

And for you motor home guys, they list several standard Class A and Class C sizes, including :

A 245/70R19.5 34" x 8" CLASS "A" MOTORHOME

C LT245/75R16/265/75R16, 245/70R15, 265/75R15 31-1/4" x 12"
CLASS "C" MOTORHOME

LARGE 235/75R16, 235/85R16, 265/75R16 31-3/4 x 11 CLASS C MOTORHOMES, WIDE TRACK & OFF ROAD TIRES

See post #1, $40-$45 range, a couple of bucks more for anything bigger than 35x12.50.

I voted for "small GLFWDA" -- does that mean a smaller logo so we have room for support the sport? That's what I voted for.

Could you put SUPPORT around the top of the GL logo, in an arc, and THE SPORT around the bottom of the logo, in an arc?? Then keep the GL logo as large as possible , but the entire message still fits the round image of the tire cover.

October 16th, 2007, 11:44 PM
Yeah, like the thread above says, or just the big round logo to cover almost the whole thing. My size I need is:
LARGE235/75R16, 235/85R16, 265/75R1631-3/4 x 11CLASS C MOTORHOMES, WIDE TRACK & OFF ROAD TIRES

I like this idea.. or just the smaller logo with "support the sport" in an upside down arc underneath the logo.

so, I'd like one too....any word on ordering?

I really need someone to design the logo. I used up all 11 creative molecules in my body several years ago....Any art people available to help?

The ordering and delivery parts are easy, turn around time should be pretty quick. And I think we have enough interest to cover our costs plus put some in the store. If we were just using the round logo I could do it today, but to take 2 pictures and get a new one is waaayyy beyond my crayon technology.

does it need to be of the quality, like to copy from, to scale, logo drawn out exact, or just a general (generic) design?:banghead:

Another reason I voted for just the logo, no motto. It's simple. But if I can find some time, I'll try to figure something out.

Why not make the logo available for download and then whomever wants can submit a design and then the group votes for the best design??

Any volunteers?

The alternative is just to go with the "support the Sport!" or "GLFWDA Seal" logos we already have?

Sorry, it's rough but that's the best logo I could find and I have no idea what font is used on the "Support The Sport". There was some inprovisation. I have just enough knowledge of Photo Shop to be dangerous!

Troll53

It can be any color you want. Does anybody know what font is used on that? A higher resolution logo would also look better. I'll tweak it tonight when I get home.

forget where(thought it was at the xgames). do we know if its trademarked in any way? im sure we are small enough it wont be an issue, but i was curious.
ill look around online and see what i can find out.

looks like skydiving, tennis, and paintball all use this phrase.

Standard sizes for include most car/lt truck sizes, and flotation sizes to 35" or 37". They also have standard motorhome tire sizes in stock, and for a couple extra bucks they can make any other size, since we are dealing direct with the manufacturer.

No - we had enough interest to justify a group buy, but we never settled on a logo, either the old logo or a new one. Tax season came and went, and I didn't go any farther with it. Doesn't mean we can't still do it though.

At the time, we were talking about a $40-45 price, including a small markup for the Association. That was late 2007 however. I would have to dig up my notes and contact them again to get an updated price.
