View Full Version : Petition to Save an Unimproved Road in Muskegon County

This "Road" serves as part of a connecting route of unimproved roads and 'two-tracks' that tie Whitehall, Mi to the rustic transportation system.

This road was found to be illegally obstructed by adjoining residents.
Those residents are now petitioning the Road Commission to abandon the road.

Don't let law-breaking, anti-access advocates win!

We had 775 e-petition signatures, 64 hand written signatures, support from:

White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce
Twisting Trails SnoBroaves Snowmobile Club
West Shore Snowmobile Council
West Michigan Development Council
Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association
United Four Wheel Drive Associations
Two Trackers Four Wheel Drive Club

AND, most importantly, about 20 people IN THE ROOM!
(Compared to the opposition's 6)

This was just a data-gathering meeting, the CRC is scheduled to hear the results of this meeting on Oct 18th.

The October 18th meeting was rescheduled for this morning, the 24th.

The Engineering Department and the Manager both submitted recommendations to the Commission that the Petition be denied and the ROW kept. Unfortunately the MCRC is under attack politically for making substantially more $$$ than any other CRC in the state. There was a big County Commission (Not CRC) meeting just the night before to discuss the CRC. I think this has caused the Commissioners to use a little 'extra' caution.

The CRC refused to vote until they could take a look at the situation 'on the ground' themselves. I have been given the reassurances of all three Commissioners and the Manager that we would be invited to participate in the inspection to point out the evidence of previous blading of the ROW and the possible Highway-By-User trail that was developed as a result of the original obstruction.

I'll keep you posted.
