Thought I would let ya'll know that I have accepted a position with Pfizer to move to Connecticut. My move date is June of 2008 so I'll be around for a little while and will still hang out on the boards around here even after I move. My plan isn't to stay in Connecticut for the rest of my life. My wife and kids are going to stay here so my daughter can finish up her last two years of highschool and I'm going to use the extra free time in the evenings to get my MBA. I have to stay with Pfizer for two years so I don't have to pay them back any of the money for relocation, but after that I'm going to do what I need to, which will probably be to move back to Michigan.

Pfizer is going to pay your moving expenses to Connectictut and you have to work for them for two years in order to not pay them back, only to move back to Michigan?
What's the difference between that and finding another job here in Michigan now?

The main difference is they will buy my house that has a huge monthly payment. They cover 100% of up to $100k loss on the sale. They already gave me a 4 month lump sum of my annual gross and they will be giving me relocation money also. The main reason is the house. I did a lot of searching for jobs in the area and I would have to take a substantial pay cut from my present salary and the house payments would be tough. If we rent for a few years I can come back and buy a cheaper house that has a garage out back so I can work on my Jeep rather than in a subdivision like I currently am. We were planning on selling our house in the next year or two anyway and with the economy the way it is I don't think I could have sold it. I'll also come back with my MBA so hopefully I will be more marketable for higher paying jobs. There's no guarantee we'll stay in Michigan though. My wife has to go to Florida twice a month for her job and they've talked about offering her a cozy position down there. With rentals in Michigan and Connecticut we will have the ability to do anything we want.

Now THAT sounds like a good plan!

Roger, best of luck. I can imagine it will be tough being separated from the family. Glad you have a good game plan!

Hey, how was Marv's course?
Marv's property was great. We did the course a couple times and then went trailriding out in West Branch/St. Helen area. I met a bunch of great people from the Swamp Stompers while I was up there too since they were there doing the last minute preps for the Pig Gig. Here's a link to the pictures that Marv took with my camera and the pics I took while out trail riding.

Wishing you and yours the absolute best.
General Motors has moved us this way and that over the years, together, apart, this shift, that shift, this plant, that plant; so I feel your pain.

Well, at least we get to keep you around until next summer. My job keeps me from home for weeks at a time sometimes, but two years is a different story. Tough move to make, but it sounds like you have a solid plan. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear you're moving, but glad to hear you're getting good work treatment. I'm glad I could get the habanero cookie bars recipe from you before you left. Those are a big favorite around here!
