I thought it was time to have a just for fun thread....

So what is everyones favorite O.R. places around the Great Lakes or around the country?

Mine is Drummod Island - two reasons. Only 150 miles from my house and really the only place I have spent time hitting the trails. Seems to be something for everyone, mud or rocks. (I am ignoring all the "other stuff" going on there)

Where is the one place you want to go offroading, in the whole world?

I want to go to Alaska, Austrailia, or just head to the western U.P. I miss the Keweenaw!

Alaska to Chile right down the mountains sounds like a pretty good trip.

My favorite places in Michigan are already closed.

There used to be a trail that went from Whitehall, up the east bank of the White River to Hesperia, crossed over and came down the west bank all the way back to Montague. the entire trail was located right on the edge of the river valley with old logging access roads that would lead you down to the rivers edge.

That's the trail that 'hooked' me on off-roading.
Now most of it is either houses or blocked by the NFS to create the "White River Semi-Primitive Non-Motorized Recreation Area".

There were two abandoned gravel pits by the Boy Scout Camp, Owasippi, along the trail that would provide hours and hours of fun too.

I enjoy the Badlands, Mounds and Silver Lake, but haven't made it up to Drummond yet. My favorite wheelin is exploring 2 tracks and just general scenery watching. One place I'd like to wheel is in Honduras. My wife went there for a missions trip a few years ago and took video of some guys wheelin up the side of a mountain where they had to cross the river a couple different times.

my favorites in michigan are all gone(13&haggerty,15&hayes,university dr.). all deep gooey mud, not big but alot of fun. drummond island is alot of fun now. the best trails i ever hit were out in colorado, near vail and mesa verde. like goat paths, no wider than the track width of the vehicle. wheeling at that altitude with steep 500 ft drop offs 3 inches from your tire take some getting used to. was awesome though. nothing like having to stop cause the elk are blocking the trail instead of broken vehicles.

Silver Lake is my favorite go-to place. We visit several times a year. I also enjoy the logging roads outside of Johnston PA on the mountain behind my father-in-law's house.

Working on a 5-year plan to head out west for a long vacation to CO & UT.

Do you like Finland for the "yumps"? I love WRC. I would love to attend one in Monte Carlo or Finland. Africa or Austrailia would have been nice but they are no more. The old Group B cars are some of the coolest cars ever built to me.

My favorite has to be Drummond Island even after only 1 trip there. The Mounds isn't too bad when it isn't half under water/mud. I also enjoy just going out and hitting the 2-tracks all over the most probably.

Other than the fact that I never made it to Paragone this pretty much copies me. Although not challenging by most standards, paddle tires & horsepower are a blast at the dunes. (Pat claims I was carrying one front tire looping around and coming down test hill)

I have also been to Kentucky Outback (now closed), Superlift in Arkansas and the Cliffs.

They were all fun!

I got hooked on jeepin as a passenger on Drummond...too bad I'm afraid I'll never get to experience it as a wheeler myself now, since more and more stuff there keeps getting shut down. :wah:

Haven't been to too many places, but did enjoy the Dunes....though will only go in early or late season when it's less crowded, but then, can't do much swimming, the lake is a little chilly in April.

Probably down south KY, TN, NC etc... as number one (so far)

Second would be an early spring or late fall run in the UP or Canada(read: 2-3' snow).

Third would be a late spring run in the UP or Canada(read: 2-3' water)
