It's time to update the front page again. That picture has been on there for too long now, and the idea of "meeting to protect our rights," or whatever doesn't show action, and that's what we need to show as an association -- that we are taking action.

Yes, it does need to be updated. Do you have any suggestions on how to "show" action? "People in a meeting" is an action shot, if you think about it.

Got any?

I looked through the SOFO post from their latest cleanup and I found only 1 picture where people were actually seen doing anything maintenance related. The rest of the pictures look like any other trail ride.

No offense to the SOFO guys, I know what you were doing out there and I applaud you. From an outsiders view, it could appear it was just a trail ride.

Yeah, Doug, the only change that's happened to that photo in months was to have it magnified so you show up even more! :poke:

Hey, Paul, is that your son on the front page now? Damn, he's good, doing all that clear-cutting with just a pair of loppers!! :eek2: :hysterical:

Now if we can just get the banner that looks like we're splashing through a mud hole rotated out we might just be up for an award this year!
hint, hint......

If someone is not going to give out an award because we have a vehicle splashing through a mud puddle, they have some serious issues. If thats the case, then we better ban anyones avatar with dirt or water in it, also change any colors on the site to something that doesn't resemble earth tones. Also, do not allow anyone to post pictures of any wheeling events cuz there is usually dirt present.

That just really gets me when we can't show what we do (at least I do).....almost like the greenies won already!

I like the muddy picture personally, it's representative of what we sometimes do with our rigs and there are legal places to do it.

I'd settle for a compromise though - if not splashing through the mud how about something wrong side up on a rock pile? Or someone clearing a ridge at the dunes with about 3 feet of air underneath?

Driving off road, and in muddy conditions, is what we do. We shouldn't try to hide what we do and put up a false front. If we show what we do, and stand strong for our right to do it, we are showing an honest face. Hiding what we are just gives the people who don't like us even more ammunition against us.

Trail_Fanatic

Just because we do it, doesn't meen we have to show it though.

Why give the greenies any more ammo than they already have?

It's not a misrepresentation, just a partial representation.

Every 4WD vehicle commercial on TV and in magazines is 5-times more damaging to our reputation than that one picture on our front page. I think we're making a mountain out of a mud hole.

And I think the manufacturers especially Jeep/Chrysler got dinged pretty badly last year with their splashing through the creek.
This post was about website comments, suggestions, etc. All I am saying is all the 4WD websites last year were judged by our PEERS, not be tree huggers. We did NOT win the top award. I inquired and was told we had it hands down except for the truck splashing through the mud. That picture just didn't properly portray the image of responsible 4 wheeling. It's the people from our own faction that told us we were crossing the line a bit that has me thinking we should tone it down just a bit.
That is all.

I guess this all boils down to whether we want to exhibit our sport in the true fashion of what we do or do we want to be Politically Correct.

I am on the fence. But I am leaning towards not caring about an award.

Forget the award, Our own peers, fourwheelers from across the US, Canada, and International felt the picture was not totally appropriate.

Put a location caption that says it is in a legal place and let'r fly. The automakers do that with "closed course" mud splashing all the time.

I'll leave this discussion now. :motz_6:

My question would be this: those peers, what locations do they wheel in? Rocks, dirt, sand, dry areas? Or wet swamps in the south?

I think those voting just don't wheel like Michiganders do....
