Dad is looking for a larger screen GPS with breadcrumbs. He bought the Garmin NUVI 360 and he really liked it but no breadcrumbs....so he took it back. Sales guy at Radio Shack told him it had the feature.

Any ideas as to a good one? Maps, color, etc. Has to have breadcrumbs. He doesn't want one of the small screen handhelds.

I know a number of folks that have the Garmin 276C and really like it:

A quick review of "The GPS Store" also found the Garmin Guest 2 has "Bread Crumb Trac-Back" Capability: http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-Quest-2-GPS-P786C3.aspx

I recently purchased the Garmin 478C: http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-GPSMAP-4...aps-P999C2.aspx (http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-GPSMAP-478C-GPS-with-Built-In-Maps-P999C2.aspx)

Which ever way he goes, The GPS Store is the way to go when purchasing a GPS Unit. When visiting the website, be sure to click the "Add to Cart" button to view the actual selling price, because it often less than the price listed on the feature page for a given unit.

Those are nice. He's prolly not going to get everything he wants. He would like touch screen and MP3 but I like the chartplotter ones that have the water charts too. That would make it nice and east to pop into the boat when we go out.

Huh...just found the 478C on ebay for $769. Deal or no deal? It's new.

I don't know anything about GPS, but for that money, I would want a whole loaf of bread, not just crumbs.

I'm getting half the bakery with this thing. You can get units that cost less but by the time you buy everything to make it do what you want, then it will cost you more.

This one will do dual purpose for the road, on the trail, on the quad, on the water and walking in the woods...thus cutting down a couple of things for me...I don't have to buy one for the car and one for the boat, one for the quad. I don't have to learn how to use 3 different units.

Also included is the regular street maps and the topo maps. It also comes with all the nautical charts built in and a SD card that has every available inland lake in the great lakes area.

If you were to buy all these maps, it would cost hundreds.

Also has a built in depth sounder for the boat and comes with the other part of it...so now I can get rid of my other sounder and sell it off.

This unit also has the ability to overlay next rad radar on the map via XM radio connection and can allert you about severe weather. There is another electronic device I can get rid of on my boat...I have a weather alert radio that is older, I will now be able to pull it and sell it.

I have now sold off just about all of my techno geek stuff that I am replacing with this unit and by the time it's all said and done, it will cost be about $100 to upgrade to this.

But I think i'll have to get a separate MP3 player so I might have to add to that total for a MS Zune.

The Garmin 478C does not play MP3's, but it is XM Capable...for Tunes or Weather.
