As some of you know, I am also into old cars and trucks, both for restoration as well as hotrods. Today I was driving down the road and saw this in a field. 650 bucks later it followed me home. It is a 1940 Desoto. I haven't found out much about it yet, except that it has the orignal paint and drivetrain. I put a battery in it and the motor turns over and has compression. The tires still hold air, and in the door there is an oil change sticker from 1969. It is only missing one piece of trim and a hubcap. It will need some work in the floors, and a complete interior restoration, but I think it is a pretty cool old art deco era car. Desoto only produced cars for half of 1940, and switched to making tanks in September of 1940 for the war, so I'm not sure how many of these were made, or are left.

For american cars from WWII on, I haven't yet owned a Hudson, a Nash, a Crosley, or a Lincoln. I think I've owned every other major brand.
My current collection consists of only 31 vehicles. This time last year I had about 53, but I had an awakening recently, and have gotten rid of everything newer than 1979 with exception to my Jimmy, my hotrod ranger, my Silverado, and the Samurai.
I have realized that newer vehicles have no soul, and suck the soul out of me. I am meant to drive the old stuff that I started out with. Even my DD and wheelers will eventually get traded in on restored older vehicles.

Hes found its cheaper to only buy vehicles with gas in them, drive 'em till they're empty and trade it for another!

Keith, know where any decent 1930 ford pick up's are, when I say decent, I mean something not completely rotted out, that I can build a rat rod out of.... :D

A bit of warning about Keiths view on vehicles...
This would be mint:

This would be a little rusty, but driveable:

This is savable:

And this would be considered junk:

Lucas hit the nail on the head, ecpecially the last part about that black pile being junk. As for a clean 30 Model A ford truck, not really. My parents have a 28 Ford AA dump truck that runs that is parked in front of their store for decoration, and I have a 34 ford truck in my garage that is awaiting rat rod treatment itself, but I don't currently know of any for sale, Unless you just want to buy a reproduction one from Brookville. Last time I checked, a complete body minus fenders from them was about $4,500.
Is there any reason you specifically want a 1930? A 31 is identical, and the 28-29 just has a slightly different sweep to the cowl.
One good place to check out for ratrod candidates is a forum I frequent www.killbillet.com. I actually have my 39 cadillac for sale on there right now if you know of anyone interested.

I actually mean 30's. Not specifically a 30. I can put the word out at school about the caddy. There might be a few guys interested. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.. If you ever come across something in your adventures let me know... I might not be as crazy as you, but I like old pieces of "junk" also.
