I have a 7 also. Someone that I know wants to look at a 72-75 CJ5 and a 76-82 CJ5. There are looking at making some aftermarket steering parts and would to check them out. They are using mine for the CJ7's. Would like someone from around the Lenawee county area.

No 5 guys Here?? Here is the deal. Ididit http://www.ididitinc.com/ is going to start making there tilt columns for CJs. For those that don't know who they are they made columns and parts for street rods and hot rods. They are using my 86 CJ7 to prototype one for the CJ7s but need a CJ5 yet. If they use your jeep they will give you a certifcate for one of the tilt columns :D . You would have to bring it to their shop here in Tecumseh. PM or E-mail me at ovr-ez@verizon.net and I will give you more information. I was hoping to find someone here on GLFWDA if not I will post it on some of the other boards.

As far as the column goes, are they even different between the CJ5 and CJ7?

I don't know. But their policy is before they sell to the public they do an install themsleves on the vehicle. They use that to made sure there is no problems and to write the installation instructions. That is why someone would have to bring it to the shop.

It's the same column. But the columns are different between the early and late model CJ's.

I have a stock 72-75 column retro fit into my 71 CJ5. (glass body and high steering) The lower piece between the box and the column is custom length, but the entire column, signals, steering wheel, horn and u-joint on the end of it are all stock and unaltered. I know it's not steel body/stock steering box, but if they want it just let me know and I'll trailer it down.

I stopped by Ididit's shop Friday after work to check on my Jeep. They have it in the prototype room with a mock up column in it. They said it should be done Tuesday. They are still looking for a CJ5. I am going to post it on some of the other boards today.

Ok heres the deal.. I work for ididit inc. We make steering columns for about anything. I work in the R&D dept. We have had alot of intrest from Jeep owners looking for replacement steering columns. When a new model column is being researched we try to find owners of those vehicles to lend us thier vehicle for two weeks. In that time frame, we remove your column and desighn a replacement column for the vehicle. We will stuff any combination of columns into the vehicle, straight, tilt, tilt w/shift. This gives us a idea what fits and works in the vehicle. It also gives us a chance to make installation instructions. When were done, We give you a credit or install the column you need, at no charge. In Joe's case, He got a column for free, and we installed it for him. He is also going to have his jeep in our catalog and maybe some advertising, and for sure its used in the installation instructions.
We are still looking for some other models. We are looking for 1972-1975 CJ 5, this vehicle must be a original steel tub with the original column still in it! We are also looking for a CJ 7 1976 - 86 with a column shift column. If you have one of these you could be the next person to get a free column!!!
If you have one of these vehicles pm me here or e-mail me @ scott@ididitinc.com

Congrats Joe! Can't wait to see it!!! I'll be looking forward to the realese of this column! It will sure make getting in and out of a CJ5 alot easier with a tilt column!!

Oh, and I think a nice front shot of your jeep would look good in Ididit's Catalog... :lmao:
