Great Lakes has completed our fall maintenance for 2006, we finished with the routes in Atlanta yesterday and Paul Mulder along with Melanie Rice completed Northbranch and Brush Creek last weekend.
The 2007 grant request has been submitted, in the request Mr. Mazzola put forth includes the rocks at St. Helen motorsport area and the Mounds.
Thank you to everyone involved!

I agree, I didn't see a fall maintenance schedule on the calendar or anything for the Boondocker....?

I thought there was a Scheduled Day for Trail Maintenance in West Branch for September 9th? The same weekend as Yogi's Pig Gig?
I see the date is NOT on the Great Lakes Calendar but I remember a number of posts discussing the issue in conjunction with Yogi's Pig Gig.
Either way, Thank You to all those involved in doing the Trail Maintenance :yourock:

Yes that was the discussion, BUT mother nature and the DNR kinda hosed things up, It goes like this. Any time there is a storm of sorts that brings down trees, the Grant sponsors MUST go up to their area and clear out any deadfall off the trail. AND we only have two weeks to get-R-done. Otherwise we forfit a portion of our grant money. So it was loose money and wait till Sept, or do it now and get who we could to do it.
I agree, this little group is getting old having to do it all the time. Heck look @ Mel and Paul. He has to have put hundreds of mines on his truck this year alone for G.L. Next year it WILL be different.

Does anybody have the Routes we are responsible for on a Map or GPS coordinates that are shareable from one person to the next?
I realize there may be other details that would have to be addressed as well (signage comes to mind) but I am trying to brain storm some of the things a newbie would need to provide assistance. Fortunately, the strong and the few have carried us for years (and years), but it's time we provide them with a little relief.

I finally got my hands on one of the trail map books that Pat carries around (green lettering/blue background). The convenience store near Silver Lake had a stack of them when we were there a couple of weeks ago. It shows the ORV trails/routes and cc trails. With one of those in hand it should not be difficult to determine what sections are our responsibility.

I believe I have one of those, I'll take it to Drummond this weekend to see if it is what you are talking about; see you there.

the only problem with that book is that is uses DNR ORV maps, highly inacurate compared to what is actually on the ground. However they do get you to where the route is. We have our routes signed well enough that all you have to do is follow the orange confidence markers that are every 10th mile or so and you really cant stray from our commitment.
For someone to do a run through and clear any downfalls after a storm or just to do a fall run through would be easy enough. The hard part comes when we have intersection sign issues. To fix this we need to have Mr. Mulder do a sign school for those that are able to help out. These signs are EXTREMELY critical to say the least. Paul Mulder is a certified sign installer and takes great pride in having our routes perfect sign wise. He will have to fully trust that if someone else were to install signs that they do it correctly.
But being one of the tired old maintenence crew I think we need to have that sign school and some new warm bodies to help out. Let's get er done!
