Hi All

For my 1st time going this year I have a few questions. I think I have what I need for the trail but was wondering. What is available or open for food (i.e. resturants/ bars/ stores) for mornings or evenings? Is gas nearby to refill after rides? Any other suggestions. :)

Thanks Steve

Steve,
There are 2 small restaurants, and 2 stores right down the road. Both have gas.
There is also a bar if you are inclined. (the Zone) and a LCBO. (Canadian liquor store).

I am assuming that you already have a place to stay.

A couple other suggestions: Depending what ride you sign up with, you may be as much as 40 miles out into the bush. So, a change of clothes, warm jacket, rain gear and extra food are a good idea. (Last year I slipped and got into a creek that was over my boots. A change of jeans, shoes and socks came in handy) It may be warm and sunny when we leave but a late night can get cold.
If you are running a stock motor, gas should not be a problem.

One other suggestion: The trail rides are rated 1-5. 1 being the easiest (stock) and 5 the toughest (big tires, lockers and winch) Try to sign up for the run that best suits your vehicle. The ratings are meant as a guide, so if you think you might be on the light side and your buddies want you to come along, be sure to talk to the trail leader.

See you there!
Jim

Are you serving any breakfast this year?

Bruce....no food will be served this year!! Everyone is on their own!!

Steve.......White Rhino offers his sage advice once again!! Be wise, Grasshopper, and do as he says!!!

By all means, don't be shy about approaching any of us at the Blueberry Hill Campground to ask questions or seek advice!! I see that you are a member of the TriCity Trailriders, so you know that you can always talk to Pat & Kim as well!!

We'll be more than happy to show you a GREAT time, but only as much fun as you are willing to have!

Relative to the trail ratings, especially the lower ones....don't write them off as wimpy rides. Stuff can and will happen to make them some of the most interesting rides of all.
It doesn't matter what level run your on, even the stock ones have been know to spend some "extend time" in the woods. (GG'99)
Actually I would always encourge bringing enough food and water for two days (and not just candy bars) along with an extra change of clothes and warm ones for extended peroids at night outside. The temp during the day can be 60-70 but it's not uncommon for it to snow at night. There will be light to extremely heavy frost at night. And actually, I would encourage everyone to bring along at least a gallon or two of gas, just cause. Especially if their V8's stock or otherwise.
Additionall CB's are a great addition for communication on the trail. FRS's are gaining some popularity though especially with the higher wattage and longer range GMRS frequencies. Cell phones can be left in the glove box! Ham radio is the only method of long range communication available.
If you look at the GLFWDA Trailriding guidelines for equipment, those pretty much outline most of the other equipment you'll need.
Hey T-way... can you say P.I.W. !!! Does anyone have the kahuna's to attempt it this year??? I'm going to continue my exploratory mission north. I think it's only a matter of time before we end up moving north to get access to more challenging and less private property.

Hey Jim,
A little off topic but....
I also was on the PIW with you in '02.
We tried to find it over this past Labor Day and failed. However, I am sure I know where it is at now. (I did not have my GPS in '02) I want to review its location with you this week, and yes, someone will run it next weekend.

We also found a new trail that has been coined "The Shortcut". It is in the vicinity of PIW and is also tight and brushy. It makes for a long day and if we get any rain before the weekend, it will add some "fun".

In addition, we have found some other trails that will be new this year.

I also have picked a couple other trails on the map that I want to discuss with you that may fit into your "exploration".

You and I discussed ham radios last year and want to pursue it with you this year. I want to have a ham next year.

There are a couple other things I want to discuss with you so if you get a chance during the day, please call me at 248-486-4500 ext225

I just returned from Canada , Talked to Pat briefly at Blue berry .

This is the driest iv ever seen it up there , what is normally deep water is now more like deep cement . Very little standing water , Buttermilk run had less then 6 to 8 " of water in the worst holes . Make no mistake it was still a stiff challenge , im on 34 12-50 with 2 lockers .

BUG juice , it has been so warm the bugs are still thick , there has been NO indication of frost up there so far , unseasonable warm is an understatment .

Were heading back up Thursday if the creek dont rise and i have a few repairs done . :P

Okay........stupid question, but tomorrow I need to pick up my last few items at the store....where can I get muskoil? I've never been up there during bug season.

Weather report is calling for rain Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. But warmer temps....mid to high 60's.
