Looking to make some improvements to the next Boondocker.

Changes I'd like to do:
a) Story introduction/fonts/logo
b) Story layouts/picture integration
c) Credit to ALL
d) More pics

I have zero prior experience to publication layouts or anything like that, so, those of you that do, I need your help.

You ever go to a website or open a magazine and note how things just flow, how the stories appear and grab you....I want that! I feel the stories, the way they are now, don't really do anything but just sit there. I'm looking for suggestions as far as layout, things that might work, ideas, pointers etc...

I finally have the Boondocker to the point I hoped to have it when I started. Change a few pics, move some things around, add in new stories, change some dates, and off to the printer. Thanks to the new (old now) software, things have been much easier to do from start to finish. Now its time to improve.

I kick myself for ignoring english class! I always would spell things wrong just so the teacher didn't pick me next or I got to sit down quick for spelling bee's. Only enough energy went into English class to pass it!

So, those layout geniouses, please throw ideas at me! Anything else bother your eyes or mind, let me know!

Thanks,

Lucas

I'm not trying to blow smoke up your ........ but I think you are working yourself too hard. The boondocker looks better than I have ever seen it. The glossy look and the color pics are great.

I too have no experience with publications. I am sure there are improvements you can make but nothing that jumps out to me.

Go work on your garage. :thumb-up:

I have got to confess, I like what you have done and what you are doing - I think The Boondocker is a pretty awesome magazine.

I would like to have the color photographs back in the mailed version - but I like it! :thumb-up:

As one of the new guys around here, I can't comment on what the Boondocker used to be. But the two I have received have impressed me with the number of articles, the good flow from front to back (I hate publications that only have a lead page for each article then tell you to turn to page 135) and the generous number of photos - I especially liked the Budget Sami write-up with pictures that walked the reader through the process. Many of the stories in the Boondocker need some polish, but that's what makes them great - real articles written by the folks that are doing what they write about. If it were up to me, I don't think I would change anything.

I agree with JK, take Rose out for dinner and then when you return go work on the garage or in it!!!!

The Boondocker is the best I have ever seen it, and I have been getting them for 10 years!

Okay, okay. I had a thought (the thought may not be original, but the fact that I was thinking at the moment is (was)) and actually it was a couple of thoughts.

We could have a page dedicated to, "Worst Stuck"; "Worst RollOver"; "Me and My Rig" type of thingy.

If we could encourage a few drivers/riders to write stories about, "My First Scratch"; "The First Time I Went Wheeling"; "Did You See That, That Was Awesome"; etc, etc.

Kids Drawings of their experience wheeling scanned and inserted into the pages.

I like the idea of a kids' page

Thanks for the input, I'll always take stories, any kind, any time....about darn near anything off-road related...

What I'm really looking for is graphical layout stuff.

If what happens happens, this summer issue will be fantastic! So, with that, send me all your pics, stories, writeups, anything at all!!!! Please!!!

I like it! People could do reviews of new products they purchase, and others could do a sxi-month or 12,000 mile review or something on other products.
