Does anyone run a Detroit Locker in Stock Dana 30 Axle ? If so, do you have any problems with U-Joint breakage ? Is the locker to much for stock shafts and U-Joints ?

I never ran a Detroit in a D30 but I ran a lock rite. I don't think the type of locker in a D30 is the issue as much as tire size vrs u-joint size. I twisted a couple u-joints which unfortunately took out the yoke. I never had a problem running 32" tires but started having problems when I went to 35's.

I would be hesitant to spend the extra $$$ for a Detroit over the cost of a Lock rite in a D30.

Just my $.02

Is the Lockrite real locker, or limited slip ? Will the casing hold up ? I'm running 33's and plan to stay that size for quite sometime.

I ran a lock rite in mine for 3 years before upgrading axles. It's a full locker, but it seems to react a little differently than the full Detroit in my front 60. (though, it's kinda apples to oranges comparison)

Two friends ran the same detroit in their front 30s. I'm not sure where it is now. The first (Indy) ran it on his CJ-5 with 33 Boggers and I don't remember any problems other than trying to drive it up a tree and pulling his steering box off. Then Woody bought it from him and put it in his TJ after getting sick of fixing the air line on his ARBssssssss. He ran it with the superior shafts, ctm joints, on 37 iroks and finally blew some teeth off the ring gear so moved onto a 9".

I'd go with the lock rite myself.

Do not forget that I have the ability to walk down to your office and smack you. Hmmm or maybe I will just make you write this whole presentation yourself. :o

Anyway, my point still stands.. I told you to run a lockrite in your dana 30. And why would a dana 30 lockrite be a limited slip while a dana 35 lockrite is a locker? Seems to me that a lockrite would be a lockrite. :P

OH MY !!! I started this topic to be nice. But now it looks like we are going to have some fun !!!!

Are you suggesting because a manufacture calls a locker a locker that it actually performes like a locker ?

Lets see... buy Franks Lucky Lockers.. never mind the cardboard clutches you see, it really gear driven ( who are you going to believe me or lying eyes ) guaranteed to lock like spool when you need it , act like an open diff when you daughter is driving it in the rain. Do ask us how, we just know !!!

As far as real field test experience just ask the our lastest customer from livonia Michigan, a lady who installed one our fine Lucky Lockers in her rear mounted dana 30. We still don't know what transfercase she used to offset the drive shaft or why she believes it was a better idea than the D35 or D44.

It must have been for the ever popular rear steer capabilities of dana 30 that we soooo much of on the trails these days....
