Dan, thanks for the invite. We have a Great Lakes trail ride already scheduled for that weekend. We will be at Silver Lake Sand dunes.

You can check out our calendar (look on the upper right of your screen) to see the scheduled events. Why don't you come to Silver Lake?

Jim

Jim's right Dan, many of us are committed to head to the West Side of the State for a little run in the Sand. If you could make it to Silver Lake Sand Dunes, we would love to see you there. If not, maybe some of the folks could get together at another time.

Yeah, a Rose City run would be fun, but can't that weekend because of GLFWDA plans. Post another weekend and see if you get any takers. I'm pretty sure people would be interested.

Okay, okay so I forgot it was Easter Weekend. Kinda explains why it was the only weekend in April I didn't have something already scheduled, DRATS!

I am free May 6th or 13th...

April 22 is open

May 6 is open for me, although it's the day of the Jeep Blessing in Cadillac so you may find some folks headed up there instead.

May 13 is probably closed -- it's Mother's Day weekend

I am probably booked till June. Then the trails are dusty so we head to the dunes.

Because there's so much less dust on a sand dune?? :P

I know, I know -- there probably is less dust kicked up at Silver Lake than on any trails up north. It just sounded funny the way you wrote it.

There is virtually no dust at the dunes. Only in the parking lot.

Pretty hard to beat. Wheelin in a bathing suit & bare feet, go for a swim, people watch. Life is good. :thumb-up:

There is a group in Canada this weekend, they left on Thursday.
Maybe some locals will respond to your post.

I'll be in the Grayling area (NE) next weekend, looking for "Srooms".

Keep trying, we are not trying to avoid you, just everyone is on a different schedule now that the weather is improving.

I was running around on some 2-tracks Sat. in the Rose City area. The soon-to-be-wife and I were just driving around off Heath Rd. some. We came across Tuckerville Cemetery. Kinda of a great place to be buried if you never want visitors in your afterlife. A lot has been clear-cut around there since last time I was in that area.

Did a little 2-tracking in the Mio/McKinley area too.

Maybe I can get up there in June for the run.

True dat! I need to get a few more parts and save some more $$$ then its time for Ironman to start on my Heep. I did actually go two tracking Sunday on some two tracks west of my house. I just had the Explorer so nothing tough.....but I've always wanted to explore this area.

Dan, there is change of plans following the e-board meeting this past weekend. The trails in the West Branch Area are not in much need of Trail Maintenance. The real need lies North (1 1/2 hour approx) at North Branch. Send "kb8ymf" a PM or e-mail to get the location. He was going to post something, but I am not certain as to where he was going to post it, therefore it is easier to just go to the source.

Hey Dan, after posting this last night, I found this, http://www.glfwda.org/forums/index.php?sho...=0&gopid=14162& (http://www.glfwda.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1729&st=0&gopid=14162&) this morning. Now I don't know if that frees up a few people to ride this weekend or not????

I'm trying to see if I can make this run. I have a route plotted out that I've been thinking about leading people on during the June quarterly, but would like to test with a smaller group first. Maybe this Saturday's run is the answer.

I think we are going to stay close to home and visit the Mounds instead of heading up this weekend.

Looks like I can do this. I didn't see anyone choose a starting spot yet, so let's go for Quality Inn off of exit 212. Let's plan on meeting at 10 a.m. This hotel is where the June quarterly meeting is at so you'll already know where it is when you come back up.

We can figure out then how many we have and how to divide up, if at all.

As I posted before, I'd like to try out my new system of taking a prior GPS track, putting in the computer to create a route and dumping it back on my GPS. So anyone who is up for a little Trail Ride - Beta version can follow me. :wow:

Not sure if I can make it yet.

The GPS stuff intreges me. I think Roadhouse has my old Garmin. I would like to pick up another one soon. I was quite happy with Garmin's service so I will probably go with another one of theirs.

What model/brand GPS do you have?

Oh yea, post how it works out if you can.

Note that the starting location has changed. I was thinking of the Kmart in Grayling when I said it was on the business loop. :doah:

Let's shoot for the Quality Inn off of Exit 212 on I-75. Meeting time is still 10 a.m. I usually plan to eat on the trail during a break, so pack snacks or real food and plenty of water or nonalcoholic beverage of your choice.

Here's a link to the hotel's directions and map page:

Not really. I'll have both of my kids with me, so I'll be looking to bail out around 4:30 p.m. so I have time to air up and hit the highway at a reasonable hour for the 2-hour ride home.

We won't be that far from anywhere that someone couldn't bail earlier if they need to, with the understanding that we have no idea what the trail conditions and travel speed will be.

I'll be running on Channel 4 on the CB, I'm KD8CXP on the ham radio, and my cell phone is 517-749-7170. One of those is bound to work so you can make contact.

Hi again this is dan well the trail ride was a blast until i bent my radius arm on my ford truck so now instead of it being vertical it is horizontal and rubbing on my front drive shaft so about a 1/4 of the trail ride i ran in two wheel drive because it was making a clunking sound when it was engaged so other than that there was 5 vehicles mine, my dads dodge ramcharger, Ari's jeep, Steve's jeep and Chris's land rover and it was a fun 5 hour ride

It was a good day! Sunshine stayed out and nice temperatures and a great laid-back group of trail explorers. Thanks everyone for being patient with my GPS test. It worked well overall, although the waypoints ticked off a lot faster than I expected. That's partly because there was so much less mud there than I expected after two straight weeks of rain. That sand really absorbs water fast!

I tracked the second part of the day and will try to create a route for the quarterly trail ride that offers some different experiences.
