I went to the KPAC meeting tuesday as a rep for the MTU Four Wheelers. Thought you guys might like to see my report from the meeting. I posted this on the MTU Wheelers message board, please follow the link.

It ticks me off to see people say "tear up _____"....its like they think we go out to destroy the land!!! Then they think it puts a smile on our faces or something!!!

We all so desperately need to distance ourselves from the people that do illegal activities.....the guys doing donuts in fields etc.

I agree with Lucas.
It's politically correct to use skidders and dozers to harvest logs............ which in turn does a trememdous amount of "tearing up". And, it's ok to level trees to build a shopping mall. But, if someone leaves so much as a tire print off of a "legal trail", it's "tearing up".
Where's the balance?

People shouldn't be off the trail.

I think the real problem is that we are under attack and we are being nit picked by people that don't want us
around.

We should distance ourselves from people who are not responsible when they go wheeling. Its too bad, but if we are going to keep our wheeling rights we are going to have to be little angles while we are out in the woods and we need to work on our PR A LOT. Otherwise the trend of seeing us as evil land destroyers is only going to get worse.

I do have a couple questions for the guy who came up to me after the meeting. I'm sure I'll see him there on Sept 7th.

If anyone else has any good reasons why we should be able to use state land to wheel post them here so I can pass them on.

You missed my point about being "off the trail". When I first started wheeling in the 70's, it was legal to drive from a trail out onto a beach. (I may be wrong on the legality but it was common) My point is that while some of us could drive out and enjoy the beach atmosphere, others had to destroy the surrounding land. Now, we are not even allowed to get close to a beach. Regardless of the impact. The same goes for in the woods.
I am not promoting cross country travel. Only saying that the impact from vehicles is far less than the devestation that skidders and dozers make.

I did miss your point. But I feel that my reply still applies.

When someone really wants to cause trouble the best way to do it is to nit pick at everything that the "offending party" is doing. Put the right spin on it an you can get everyone to hate the people you hate.

In my opinoin these are the people we need to watch out for.

Yes, thank you Brian for attending these meetings and keeping us informed.

We need more folks to do so if something comes up in their area, this will keep us in the "loop" and gives us the tools to be able to make a difference.
