A number of us visited the camp on Saturday, 08/09. I can tell you the donations are greatly appreciated by the kids that attend. Many of them that attend camp today are sent by parents that attended when they were children. The Special Days Camp Staff are all volunteers and many of them return year after year. We met one of the 3 nurses...who are on call 7/24...this is her 29th year as a volunteer. The campers were having a great time...water balloon games, swimming, horse back riding...arts & crafts...lots of laughter...many hellos as we passed them on their way to or from activities. This camp is the only one that allows both the child with cancer and their siblings to attend...to be kids again for a week and forget the issues they deal with on a daily basis.

I hope you can make the 2nd annual run this year. The trails are easy, but fun, so everyone can enjoy...there will be great prizes...great food...great people, that being YOU...bring your entire club..wear you club colors and help with a great cause. We have guides that can lead you on the run if you like...or head out with your own group. I hope you can make it...please stop and sit for a spell when you come to the park...say hello...Riley would like to meet you!!

2nd Annual Wheelin for a Cure 2014 Final Report

It was a perfect wheelin’ day! cool, sunny and only one area with some dust. The colors were just starting to change on the trees and there was not any rain. The Moose lodge was the starting and ending points for the run again this year. The day started at 7:45 am with parking lot greeters, Thom, Jim and John directing wheelers where to park. Linnette and Raven welcomed everyone inside and directed them to the registration table where Lori, Rob Cindy and Shari were waiting. Breakfast was offered by the Moose members for everyone. There was a little snafu with breakfast starting late so the rest of the activities were set back ˝ hour. Everyone was out on the route by 9:30 and they needed to return to the Moose by 3:00pm for the door prize drawings.
The route consisted of seasonal roads thru the scenic Allegan State Game area. There were 10 “I Spy” spots for wheelers to find and one bonus question to answer. If they found Dave at the New Richmond Park and answered a special question they received a door prize ticket. When they turned in their “I Spy” sheet back at the Moose they were given another ticket. Several participants went out on the route by themselves and (new this year) many participants went out in groups with the trail leaders, Bill, Dave, Doug and Jim. There was one rig that made it back in 3 hours but most took 5 to 6 hours to do the whole route. The down and back trail was a little challenging getting everyone down and back out, but it gave everyone a chance to visit and enjoy a glass of Lemonade from Mike’s stand while waiting.
Thanks to Lori, Rob, Linnette and Steve the DJ, games were available for the kids and adults back at the Moose. Guess the candy corn in the jar, find the special sucker in the Candy Jeep and win a Jeep. Find the toy in the swimming pool, Bucket Bonanza, and the Candy walk. The games were a big hit. DrChuckie, Marc and Peter grilled up Hamburgers, spiral hot dogs and chili dogs for everyone at the Moose. Salad, chips, cookies, pop and water, were also served. We are hoping to do lunch out on the route next year so it is not so late for everyone to eat. 
There were 78 rigs and 172 people registered this year. There were 51 rigs last year. There were 20 volunteers working VERY hard all day and over $5500.00 of door prizes handed out. Participants were able to choose which door prize they wanted to try to win. Plus there was a second chance drawing with some special prizes in it. A Go Pro raffle, Wheeling Quilt raffle and a 50/50 drawing were held. Cindy, Diane and Dave sold sweet treats, stickers, bracelets and T-Shirts.
Over $1400.00 in supportive donations were donated by businesses, families and friends. Grand River Bank and their employees, sent $650.00 directly to Special Days. The estimated total collected for the event was $7890.00. (money is still coming in) THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE! We will be sending over 6 kids to Special Days Camp next year! AMAZING!!!!
Special Day’s camp is a great place for kids with cancer or leukemia to go for a week and just be a kid. It is also a great place for their brothers and sisters to go and to be first for a change. This camp is set up to provide each child a camping experience designed for their special needs. They get to spend time with kids going thru the same experiences they are. This camp helps to teach the kids life skills to deal with treatment, school, work and general everyday stuff. They’re normal kids just dealing with extraordinary circumstances.
We got to visit camp this summer and see firsthand what this camp does and it is truly worth our time raising money for the kids. Special Days just celebrated their 35th year. Volunteers go out of their way to make each child feel normal. The nurses can even do chemo for kids that need it while they are there. 85% of the volunteer staff comes back each year. Special Days asks each family to pay $75.00 for their child to go to camp. Most families cannot afford this, so most of the campers are on a full scholarship. It costs about $1000.00 a child. The camp is for 2 weeks in the summer, one week for the siblings and one week for the children with cancer or leukemia. Then in January they have a reunion weekend where everyone goes together. It is a life changing experience for these kids, Thank You for supporting this important camp!
I want to take a minute and thank every Two Tracker member, plus Mike Henning, that volunteered, to help with the event. It would not be possible without you. THANK YOU!! Thom, Linnettee and Raven Rushing, Lori & Jeff Parmer, Steve Frantz, Jim Wiseman, Peter Ware, Bill & Cindy Sherwood, John Boom, Doug Wine, Dave & Diane Smith, Rob Otis, Chuck Henk, Dave Hemmerly. You guys Rock!
I also want to thank all the great business’s that donated door prizes, Venom Motorsports, Jeep Jamboree, Grand Rapids Griffins, Coopersville Farm Museum, Saugatuck Boat Cruises, Tom Woods, Coopersville & Marne Railway, Kalamazoo Nature Center, Grand Rapids Children Museum, Oswald Bear Ranch, Gilmore Car Museum, Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, TC Paintball, Timber Ridge, Craigs Cruisers, Shedd Aquarium, DTS/Drive Train Specialists, 4byFours Offroad Suspension and Fabrication, Meijers Gardens, Woodland Travel Center, XLine of West Michigan, Harold Ziegler, BDS Suspension/Zone Offroad, ACE Engineering, SmashHole Motorsports, 7 Slot Grill, White Caps, Compass Property Management, JCR Offroad, Belle Tire, Binder Park Zoo, Centershot Gun Range. They were all fantastic prizes’, THANK YOU!
