how much to retube and balance a toyota shaft and install .120-.188 wall tubing?
what method do you use for installing a heavier wall tube on the shaft? do you turn down the id of the tube or the od of the yoke end?
and guarantee on your work?

I'll do it for $250. Something like that would be a one-off custom job. We would probably turn the ID of the thick wall tubing in order to fit the yokes. Of coarse it would be guaranted. :thumb-up:

how about just making a standard slip (about 4") non cv shaft with toyota parts, shouldnt this be less than a cv shaft at $240?
for what its worth tom woods does the retubing of the toy yokes with .120 dom balanced and shipped with the yokes turned down (the prefered/stronger way) for $150 for joe consumer

Well...I can build you a new one for about $230 if you have the standard Toyota flanges. That's for a shaft with .120" tubing and bigger 1310 series joints. I don't like Tom Woods' stuff, not because he's competion, but because he uses cheap China made parts that he buys at rediculusly low prices and sells them to consumers at normal costs. His 'Gold Series' joints are nothing more that a PDQ with a yellow seal. Ask Bult4mud about Tom Woods shafts vs. Ann Arbor Driveshaft.
The fact of the matter is...no standard driveshaft tubing will fit the Toyota yoke besides the tubing that is intended for it in the first place. I have re-tubed my fair share of shafts and have never had a strength problem with turning the ID of the tube down. If price is the issue go with Woods, but if you want quality, you get what you pay for. That's why Spicer joints are the most expensive.

a 1310 series shaft doesnt offer what a toy shaft offers.... toyota stuff is as strong if not stronger than 1310 spicer stuff because its cast STEEL and not cast iron they also offer more angle than 1310.
not to nit pick but how does it cost more to retube a shaft (your only costs are machining time and the tube) than it does for an entire new cv shaft using parts that you pay for?

Look......I didn't know that you were an expert on driveshafts. I've been doing this for five years now and apperntly I don't know what I'm talking about?!? All u-joints are cast steel, the yokes on Toyota stuff is what allows more angle and the reason it costs more is because there is more labor involved and I'm giving GLFWDA members a price break on CV shafts. If you don't like my costs then you have every right to go somewhere else to get the work done...but don't tell me the differences in driveshafts.....you're preaching to the choir.

Last year we had a break down or part ready to break up in Canada and needed a u-joint FAST. We had trouble with the shipping and never got the part. The part got there when we got home. Are you familiar with getting stuff to Canada FAST?

I have been in that NAPA store a couple of times with Tab (he goes by TAB on this board) He reps the Forney welding supplies found in many Auto Parts stores in that neck of the woods and all over the state for that matter.
By having stuff shipped to Tim we can avoid the customs hassle with shipping between country's :thumb-up:
And if we can get the Soo NAPA to carry one of every part we might need we can feel free to bust up some crap :rolf:

I'd be interested in what it would cost to rebuild a Double Cardian DS with a flange of somekind on one end and I think a 1310 on the non CV end....place that does it for me now, I don't really like and at your costs for new DS, I could spend another 20 bucks and get new ones each year!!!
I had mine lengthened and I paid 260 (after he quoted me 140). I get it rebuilt about once a year, stupid ungreasable center ball thingy, and I drop about 200 for him to cut the end off, weld on a new end, new joints and rebalance it.

Lucas, my CV shaft on the ZJ has a greasable ball and both ujoints are greasable. I had the stock one rebuilt about 6 years ago with this setup and its doing fine since. I grease it a couple of times a year. Joint Clutch did mine. I'm sure AA driveline could do the same.

I'll do it for $175, complete rebuild w/ balance. We can make it a greasable set-up. You can go from non-greasable to greasable, but not vice-versa. If you play in the sand alot, the factory set-up is the way to go. Non-greasable is sealed better, but on Jeeps with alot of angle, the CV will wear out sooner.
