A friend sent this out:

Hey Jeep Friends,
I need some advise. Remember how my Jeep kept slipping out of 4WD Low on in MI, on Drummond Island? Well, my Jeep has been at the dealer all week and they are telling me that they can't they find anything wrong with it. Any advise?? This is my 3rd Wrangler (all 3 lots of issues, TJ and JK). I am so glad I still have my 1994 Cherokee with 214,000 miles on it... lots of rust, but never a problem.
Thanks!

Thoughts?

What is the jeep in question? Also, define "slipping out" of low range. Is the front axle disconnecting under load? If so, my first thought is vacuum disconnect (if equipped). Is the whole t-case popping out into neutral?

New TJ. The linkage completely pops out. We tried adjusting it to no avail. It would pop out even when it was "firmly" in the low position.

No vacuum system on a TJ so forget what I said about that.

I wad just talking about this though because a buddies YJ is having issues that are vacuum related. However, I was told that if the shift forks are worn in the t-case it could po sop out like you describe. The t-case is easy to split so pop it apart and you should be able to see what's worn. Or good used 231s can be had for around 100.

Is there a body lift of a t/case drop on this jeep?

Try driving it with the linkage disconnected to isolate that potential cause.

Nope.
Still Stock.
