Time is running out for all of the clubs and organizations that are organized as non-profits or non-taxable to catch up on their information return filings. The October 15 deadline is a drop-dead date, if you are a small non-profit (501c4, 501c7) that was not formerly required to file a form 990 because your gross receipts were too low, you needed to start filing the new IRS 990-N "e-postcard" a couple of years back. If you fail to file by 10-15-10 your exempt status will be revoked, and if you have ever had to go through that paperwork you know it takes a fair amount of time plus a filing fee to get re-established as a non-profit.
The list of MI non-profits at risk is over 300 pages, so I did not look to see if there were any familiar names on the list. If you want to check on the status of your club (not sure of the release date of the lists from IRS) please go to http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=225889,00.html and download either the PDF or Excel version to search for your club(s).
No to steal from the Geico commercials, but registering to use the e-postcard system and filing the required information form is so easy a caveman could do it. However, if you have any questions please feel free to send a PM and I will walk you through it.
